First Image of the New ‘Thundercats’

Posted on Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 by Russ Fischer

Here’s one tailor-made for those susceptible to nostalgia. While plans for a Thundercats feature haven’t gone anywhere in a while, Warner Bros animation is putting together an anime-influenced take on the old show for broadcast on TV. A lousy image leaked out yesterday, but now there’s an official look at the characters straight from the studio.
See the full image and get more info after the break.
I can’t say this any better than the press release does, so let’s go to the official statement:
Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.
The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.
ThunderCats” is executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”). Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) are the producers.

I really don't like Batman:Brave and the Bold, but Teen Titans and Ben 10 were pretty cool. IDK if the style will be my favorite, though.

Couldnt find anything about it on imdb or the net, but I remember some terrorist org was turning regular people into zombies and other "dead-like" monsters...

You guys ever seen the sketches for the Batman-set-in-a-high-school animated series that thankfully never took off?

If you think this is bad...

Nah, I think it looks good. They only look slightly younger, and it still looks like it's done in the anime style.

I was thinking it was going to be that more streamlined/ almost abstract style that they use for cartoons like Powerpuff girls, Transformers: the Animated, and Teen Titans.

The nostalgia fans are the cancer that is killing the entertainment industry.
Don't quite agree. Alot of the things I grew up watching and reading, and enjoyed, were created by older fans, and based on nostalgia. BATMAN:The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen, are written by comic fans and based heavily around nostalgia to give the stories more meaning.

Batman: The Animated Series which mostly everyone likes was already a 50 year old property when the cartoon came out.

anyone remember M.A.S.K. or Inhumanoids?
M.A.S.K. had some pretty cool toys. I caught Inhumanoids one early morning and thought it was pretty scary at the time. I just remember some kind of giant mutant creature grabbing some lady and she started decomposing right there while screaming horribly. Then another creature's rib cage was like a prison cell that contained tortured humans inside it.

We had some really interesting cartoon shows back then.

Wow, I just googled it and it's real. Might as well not even use Batman from the description:

We all go through incredible changes as teenagers: growth spurts, bad skin, a sudden insatiable need to uphold justice and avenge your murdered parents…. Well, that is if you’re Bruce Wayne. As if being a freshman at Gotham High wasn’t tough enough, Bruce’s insomnia and technological fascinations are taking their toll. Instead of spending his time studying, he has begun to obsess over an emerging personality trait: Batman. But under the watchful eye of his guardian and steward, Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce is forced to put his intelligence to good use: graduating high school. But given his classmates, can Bruce survive Gotham High?

I thought the one constant of any Batman interpretation is that Bruce Wayne, at a young age, witnessed his parents murdered in cold blood.

I didn't have a problem with X-Men Evolution because originally, the X-Men were supposed to be teenagers.
