I read this shit in 5th grade so it's been awhile, but what do you think of this "utopian" society based book?

Also, can anyone recommend good movies (I'm lazy now, no books lol) that revolve around a different type of society? And no, don't say Pleasantville.

A movie called Equlibrium was good. It is about a socity where you are not allowed to have feelings. Since feelings inclue jellousy and rage and it is post WW3. They have to sacrifice happpyness and plesure for a poeaceful socity. People who dont take thier dose are imidiatly exicuted. Its a pretty good movie.

As for the giver i havent read it in about 10 years but that was a crazy book as well. How he said he was "starving" and they came up to him like "the father doesnt give u enough food?" lol and all that shit.

Yea that book was crazy. I read that a long ass time ago but I don't think i should've cuz we didn't understand that shit back then. It's funny how so many people can be so easily manipulated and made to follow the will of a select group.

But i mean every thing you think weather you want to belive it or not is manipulation. If you belive in God if you dont belive in God. If you belive in capitalism, if you belive in socialism. Someway, the path you took and the people and leaders you encountered manipulated you in to the person you are today. Yea you have free will, but that is shaped off of what you learned as a young cild, good and bad. Just kinda crazy to think about.

That's what happens when you have the ability to have cognitive thought. Some people with opinions and charisma will work the weak minded or uneducated. We had a discussion in my English class once over whether we felt our beliefs and our behaviors were completely unique or not; however, it's impossible to be 100% unique. Society is all about sharing ideas and growing on those ideas. Since the very beginning when the elders of any paticular tribe told the members how life works and why it works that way. Humans are easily trained tho, it's like we're pre-programmed to do what we're told; to obey. Any person can have a huge following carry out his every will if he has enough intelligence and charisma. Look at Hitler, Koresh, Jim Jones, etc etc. Humans are so emotional, it's kinda scary.

When I read the book in the ninth grade at first I thought the book was anti communist propaganda. I'm like wtf, dude's name is Equality 9576 or some wild shit and he doesnt know color exists and the system decides his destiny. I dont remmeber the ending but the literary peice must have had some kind of subliminal messages or anti communist undertones in it or else it wouldnt have made the reading list. Ya know?
