I really didn't think we could top last year... and while we haven't yet, we are certainly NOT going in the right direction. I personally can't stand how inept this franchise has become. And it starts at the top with Mr. Glass and his dip shit son, Dan. Allard is gonna have to go, and I just can't help but think that Buddy Bell is far behind. Buddy is just playing the cards he has been dealt, but tonight after getting off the plane at KCI, he looked physically and emmotionally dead.
One thing about Baird... we have to see John Buck in there every day until Baird is no longer around. They just have to justify the Beltran trade... nothing can ever justify that. Especially now that Alex Gordon is in Wichita and tearing the cover off the ball, Mark Teahen will have to step up his game BIG time if he wants to stick around.
The fans are so tired of hearing the complaint that we are small market and that we just can't compete. I used to argue that point all the time with friends and others, but people have seen teams like Oakland and Minnesota compete for a number of years and they are in the same "small market" category with KC. We are all sick of it, and now that Jackson County passed those renovations, Mr. Glass needs to get his head out of his ass and get us some real talent. Not a bunch of guys that HAVE been good or MIGHT be good. I think we brought in a couple of good players in Reggie Sanders and Mark Grudzielanek, but our pitching has totally gone in the tank. I now long for the days of Chad Durbin, Mac Suzuki, Darrell May and Jose Lima (2005 edition).
One other problem this organization also seems to have is player development in the minors. Who have we developed in the last 12 years that is in the majors, making a difference, whether that be with KC or not? Johnny Damon, Carlos Beltran and Mike Sweeney are the only three that come to mind. Mike MacDougal is on the mend... David DeJesus has the potential and if Angel Berroa could ever put it all together that would help. The future of this organization is playing in Wichita this summer... the future is bright, but only if those players can put it all together when they are in the Big Leagues.
On a positive note, Zack Greinke is back in Arizona building his pitch count and stamina. With Runnelvys "Fat Tub of Goo" Hernandez flaming out in Omaha Wednesday night, I will definately hold out hope Zack makes a full recovery and can become the ace this team needs.
I am hopelessly loyal, tho, so you can catch me at next Tuesday night's game against the Twins. The wife wants the DeJesus t-shirt they are giving away that night... otherwise I'd be going this weekend to see the Indians. Nick, I hope your ChiSox don't over-look Cleveland... they look dangerous.
