says Sohh.com http://blogs.sohh.com/media_check/archives/2005/12/lies_damn_lies.html

READ THE LAST LINE, from an Sohh columnist

I hate to use an independent artist to make my point about these lying rappers, with their lying publicists, who send mags like SOHH press releases full of lies, but K.I.D.'s age claim is so flagrant and obvious I just had to point it out.

Forget stop snitching- let's make the slogan in the new year STOP LYING. Here are some lies rappers need to come clean on:

1. Age. K.I.D. ain't the only one who's forever young. How long is Dr. Dre going to pretend to be in his thirties?

2. Indie success. The biggest offenders are the B-list rappers on Koch claiming to make $8 per record. A special Stop Lyin' shout out goes to Lil Flip and Slim Thug for saying they've done platinum numbers in mixtapes and bootlegs.

3. Fake sub-genres. A trick of publicists that I actually admire is assigning their artist to a sub-genre of music that either is made up, or they really don't belong too. Let's get this straight- Styles P is not a political rapper, Kanye isn't a Christian emcee, and there is no such thing as a Hyphy Movement!

What other lies am I forgetting?

BTW DVD IS OUT ON DEC. 13!!!

To play devils advocate...When their is a movement their is a level headed ideology and some form of leadership. Who is the "Hyphy Movements" leader? One could also ask the question "what's the difference between Hyphy, Crunk and Thizzin (as a movement not taking drugs)"? Their are rules, structure...Their are no rules or identifying factors to hyphy. I think it is more so that the Bay wants to get the chance and respect it deserves and it sees the Hyphy thing as the only way it can be done- and that's not true. We (Bay Area people) are very protective of our culture and that sometimes blinds us to our own faults. SOME (not all) of this Hyphy music is pure trash. Alot of it is just a bunch of Keak bitting and Mac Dre imitating. I would hope that people could seperate their pride and love for the Bay from ability to use reason and logic. I love the Bay from the OG'z to the New Bay to the Under Ground and even a few choice Hyphy cats. But you have to really ask yourself "does this hyphy shit REALLY reprent the Bay" or does it represent a small and disinfranchised portion of this reigion. Most people that just jumped on the Hyphy/Thizz band wagon don't even know what it means to Thizz and most cats that say they Hyphy don't even have a clear definition of that either. If the Bay was smart it would try to make it a Bay wide movement and include all of the different styles in the Bay. Movements have clairity...and the Hyphy movement doesn't have it (atleast yet).

I DONT THINK PEOPLE IN THE BAY WERE LOOKIN AT IT AS A MOVEMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT THE OUTSIDE MEDIA TOOK IT AND RAN WITH IT (THAT MTV SEGMENT ABOUT "HYPHY" AND OTHER OUTSIDERS, WORD OF MOUTH ETC.) SO ARTISTS STARTED FOLLOWING SUIT... YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS AND STICK WITH IT... BUT ITS NOT LIKE PEOPLE ARE JUST MAKING THE MUSIC FOR THE FUCK OF IT TO APPEAL TO MASS MEDIA... THIS IS THE GENERAL ATTITUDE OF THE YOUNGER CROWD OUT IN THE BAY RIGHT NOW... SHIT IS HOW THEY FEEL... I ENJOY IT... BUT IT REALLY DOESNT SEEM TO CROSSOVER THAT GENERATION GAP... OLDER HEADS CANT STAND THE SHIT

AND AS FAR AS LEADERS I THINK RICK ROCK BASICALLY DEFINED THE SOUND BUT IT DIDNT START WITH HIM... AS FAR AS THE TERM ITSELF...

TRIPPED ME OUT THAT THE DUDE WHO WROTE IT CAME SO OUTTA LEFT FIELD WITH IT THOUGH...

HE SAID KANYE WEST IS NOT A CHRISTIAN RAPPER... STYLES P IS NOT A POLITICAL RAPPER... THEN THAT HYPHY COMMENT... WORD MUST BE GETTIN OUT

IN FACT I KNOW IT IS

yea i'm from the bay area but i don't really feel the new hyphee music hype

i mean we stay hyphee thats just how we are

it ain't a movement... it's a way of life

i think hyphee is good but the bay area isn't all just Hyphy

i think the newer hyphee music is hyped up for all the sober people

i aint really into it that much, its too up tempo for me

most of the shit be slappin though

we got too many different styles in the bay area to be classified as hyphy
