there must be a god or gods or some kind of higher being! think about it. EVERY civilization has some kind of religion. if there wasnt a god then why did the europeans see the natives and their religion? every1 has had religion in there life. but i have been seeing all these posts about whenu die u just die! its sleepin without dreaming, or maybe u do dream. and everything comes true, or if u were bad u have nightmares for eternity. i dont know, and none of u know either, no matter what u say, u know as much about death as i do. and i say there is a god of some sort, and no one knows who is ultimatly right

You are just as justified in your mind for believing in God as an atheist is justified for not believing in God. Where is this thread supposed to be going?

I am not an atheist. You know this if you've read any of my posts. But, I can imagine an atheistic reply to this post being something along the lines of "this is merely your opinion and can't be proven whatsoever." Which you did state as being your opinion. So I am asking you where exactly you wanted to go with this post?........

Basically early civilizations could only explain things in mysticism and divine power because biology, geology, and most sciences which we understand completely today were pretty much nonexistent. (You should read some of the crazy shit men used to do to women who were thought to be witches.) As much as we know today about the world and the human functions of the brain and body we are still semi-primitive. I mean consider how much scientists have learned after World War 2 and that was only roughly 60 years ago, a very-very short time since the existence of life on this planet. Just think about how much more scientists and other brilliant minds will find out within the next century. Consider this, certain Indian tribes used to worship the moon, sun and all of the natural elements around them as spiritual beings. It is obvious now to the intelligent man or woman that the moon, sun, and all natural elements are not spiritual beings and if prayed to will do absolutely nothing.

I like to relate the psychological term of the “placebo effect” to religion. Basically it’s the fundamental belief in something that is assumed to be the active agent (a drug, God, ect…) that causes a physiological response, but no active agent actually exists. In the medical field people have actually put cancer in remission thinking they were taking a cancer defeating drug when the medication was actually pills filled with sugar. So it wasn’t actually life saving drugs or the presence of God, it was the motivated human ability that caused physiological change in him/herself. So keep believing in what you want, who knows it might raise your immune system and you might live longer but as Freud said, everything is what one wishes it to be…

Referring back to the placebo effect in practice; such as Monks raising their body temperature in 20 below weather with wet towels over them and making the towels steam. But all that is, is a physiological change in the human body not supernatural powers any human can do it with in deep meditation… & yes n9newunsixx5150 I watch Ripley's Believe It or Not! from time to time, but that still doesn’t prove an after life or supernatural energy.

But mark my words all religions one day will be mythologies. None of us, I am sure of it, will be a live when all religions eventually fade away, but I truly feel that all cultures will finally see that there is a better way than to put any notion of faith in religious myths.

im just sayin that there must be a god. cuz im always hearing things like there aint no god and stuff. i believe in god and a greater place, but u guys are always bringing scientific proof that is making me question my views. i just pointed out that since the beginning of time ppl have been worshipping some sort of higher thing, so i thought that my beliefs were true. but i see some ur points and but i still question EVERYTHING.

Ancient Egypt was quite an advanced civilization. Read The Kybalion. It is based on teachings from an ancient egyptian philosopher whose principles in that book have been verified by science in that last century or 2. Not only that, but this man believed in God and had a deep spiritual sense to his teachings which, for the most part, agree with our scientific world.

@Furio, I am glad u are beginning to question things. As most philosophers would suggest, question everything, take nothing as the absolute truth.....

@n9newunsixx5150 I have heard the same scientific advances about Ancient Egypt but considering they used to burry slaves alive with powerful figures when they died and many other ridiculous ideas of supernatural beliefs, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on ancient ideologies.

& 1 Krazy Nigga is a perfect example of someone who thinks he has the absolute truth and look how he treats people who don't believe the way he does. This is my exact point that I make all the time about the many major problems the influence of religious dogmas has on people; it’s total and complete exclusivism.... Once again, if you don't believe in what I believe in you're not going where I am going when you die BS....

@ res- i do question everything nowadays. i even question living and going to school and all that shit. why do i have to know how many hydrogen atoms are in my water! why??? i ask my teacher that and she was like "well,..its on ur test" i started laughing so hard! i have no reason to know that shit! im not gonna use it. but i am thankful to be able to think as i do, other ppl got more real shit to deal with. but i asked all my teachers to give me good reasons to learn this stuff. if u think about it, we dont need this shit! do u physically need to know math problems to live?? think about it!

Fredric Nietzsche once wrote, “He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how.” That is one of my favorite Nietzsche quotes; He was talking about why one should continue to live and struggle, in which he was suggesting that you have to find meaning in what you are doing, especially the shit you hate to do. I questioned the shit out of my Finite Math course, I thought what is the point of me knowing the probability of if I roll 2 fair dice and toss 3 coins that I’ll end up with the sum of 7 or 11 and all heads… I mean wtf do I need to know this shit for, I don’t know a single person that has made any money or has any constructive use from knowing the probabilities of rolling dice and flipping coins. The only meaning I could get out of that class was I needed to take it and pass it for my statistics prerequisite so later I can take the GRE and get into graduate school. Point being is find some meaning/value in everything you do even if u hate doing it….
