Basically early civilizations could only explain things in mysticism and divine power because biology, geology, and most sciences which we understand completely today were pretty much nonexistent. (You should read some of the crazy shit men used to do to women who were thought to be witches.) As much as we know today about the world and the human functions of the brain and body we are still semi-primitive. I mean consider how much scientists have learned after World War 2 and that was only roughly 60 years ago, a very-very short time since the existence of life on this planet. Just think about how much more scientists and other brilliant minds will find out within the next century. Consider this, certain Indian tribes used to worship the moon, sun and all of the natural elements around them as spiritual beings. It is obvious now to the intelligent man or woman that the moon, sun, and all natural elements are not spiritual beings and if prayed to will do absolutely nothing.
I like to relate the psychological term of the “placebo effect” to religion. Basically it’s the fundamental belief in something that is assumed to be the active agent (a drug, God, ect…) that causes a physiological response, but no active agent actually exists. In the medical field people have actually put cancer in remission thinking they were taking a cancer defeating drug when the medication was actually pills filled with sugar. So it wasn’t actually life saving drugs or the presence of God, it was the motivated human ability that caused physiological change in him/herself. So keep believing in what you want, who knows it might raise your immune system and you might live longer but as Freud said, everything is what one wishes it to be…
Referring back to the placebo effect in practice; such as Monks raising their body temperature in 20 below weather with wet towels over them and making the towels steam. But all that is, is a physiological change in the human body not supernatural powers any human can do it with in deep meditation… & yes n9newunsixx5150 I watch Ripley's Believe It or Not! from time to time, but that still doesn’t prove an after life or supernatural energy.
But mark my words all religions one day will be mythologies. None of us, I am sure of it, will be a live when all religions eventually fade away, but I truly feel that all cultures will finally see that there is a better way than to put any notion of faith in religious myths.
