Mara Salvatrucha is a Los Angeles-based, predominantly Salvadoran, gang that is also active in Central America. The gang's name is commonly abbreviated as MS-13, Mara, MS, or "posse," and is composed of Salvatruchas. Its name translates into "street-tough Salvadorans" in the Spanish language. The gang originated among Salvadoran emigrants living in Los Angeles but it has since spread to other parts of North America. It emerged in the 1980s during El Salvador's violent civil war and is estimated as of 2005 to have 50,000 members in Central America and between 8,000 and 10,000 members in the United States [1] The "13" is a gang number associated with southern California and also signifies the thirteen rules that the gang follow.

I saw "explorer" on the discover channel last night. They were talkin about a MS-13 Gang Mexican Mafia. I geuss it's gotten soo bad to the point that the FBI is getting involved. They said in 2005 there were 2,000 deaths in el savador... all MS-13 gang related. This gang said to be in 33 states across america.

In September 2005, a two-day sting involving more than 6,400 government agents from the United States, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico produced the arrests of close to 660 members of MS-13.

MS-13 is a far more dangerous gang than previous and current rivals due to their large numbers and complex member network. Their members are typically more brazen than other gangs due to the fact if they become wanted in the U.S. their gang can arrange for their transportation across the border and relocate in a 'friendlier' country while additional members are smuggled across the border. MS-13 has now begun to target and has fired upon U.S. border patrol from the Mexican side. [4]

THE THREAT THEY POSE

In El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico they are known to threaten officials who interfere with their business; this typically involves a verbal threat to killing that official or their family. The governments of these countries have been unable to effectively defend themselves against this gang, and in return this gang has been able to gain considerable political power. This strategy of hi-jacking governments is now being used against federal, state, and local governments in the United States. In 2005 Los Angeles was investigating the gang and in retaliation they left a bullet on the lead detectives door.

Organized crime is a good thing in certain situations. Like when you have a corrupt government (like we do and many other places do).

These cocksuckers are popping up everywhere now even here in the Valley they shot some foos.
The funny thing is that people are scared shitless over these cats (because they tag everything in the middle of night when no one's watching).
They pale in comparison to the MM, Nuestra Familia, and crips & bloods.
You don't see these gangs on national television detailing their operations

The thing that strikes me is why?
There was a concern within law enforcement that some former El Salvadorian militants have infiltrated the gang.
I have a feeling the media's trying to beef these guys up because they've been reported as haven held talks with Al Qaeda.
Why is this significant? It's a trojan horse....
They're trying to associate gangs with terrorists.
They fear that street gangs are becoming more and more organized so they wanna group gangbangers with terrorists so that they can treat them as terrorists. Thanks to the patriot act....

don't believe the hype

MS is just like most other gangs. yes they are dangerous and kill but thats what most gangs do. they are nothing out of the ordinary as far as gangs are concerned. the media doesnt discuss how the MS was created as a result of the US foreign policy in El Salvador and their civil wars in the 80s.

^lol what do you mean?(they have no blocks?) They have their blocks. watched it on discovery channel. poeple do business on their blocks such as selling hot dogs, dealing drugs... they pay MS-13 to protect them. Say a hot dog seller gets payed 500... 200 will go to MS-13 for protection. Same thing with drug dealing.

[foetwin clears his throat] Iran-Contra scandal ring a bell? The CIA and US military were involved but Oliver North was the fall guy to cover up the whole scandal, but El Salvador played a part as a place to exchange guns for drugs.
Plus, your Good Ol Pals have been training people to create street militias in central american countries for decades through the school of assassins, or what is now known to what? The international something. Anyways, to make a long story short, it's just like the homeboy eluded to above. Peoples from El Salvador were migrating herre to escape the monster we helped create.

My question is, what are the 13 rules of the gang, and why does XIII connotate southern cali?

Yea I dont get that either. What makes them more dangerous than any other gang?
According to the discovery channel, law enforcement agencies fear that El Salvadorian rebels have infiltrated the gang. According to some PD's, MS has used military like tactics in some of their crimes (armed robberies ect).
The irony here is that it's quite the opposite in El Salvador, death squads go around hunting "all" gang bangers including MS.
Most MS deportees rather spend time locked up here instead of being deported to El Salvador in fear of the dreaded death squads.

If you believe that martial law is just around the corner, you should be paying close attention to this. I don't like the fact that our government is trying to link American gangs to Al Qaeda. And they're using MS as the link to terrorism. You cats remember the reports that supposedly Al Qaeda was seaking MS to help them infiltrate the US from the Southern border? Of course it's an unfounded report but the media bought it and now everyone is in fear. Last year several law enforcement agencies with the help of federal agents conducted a collective sweep across the country and arrested a shit load of gang bangers. I know that at least 40 something people were arrested in EPA alone. Of course the excuse was that police fear the threat of street gangs.

Up next on the plate? Militias....

Even if you don't buy into the theory of an impending police state,
this is pretty fucked up.
For years minority communities have been left to dry when it comes to battling gang activity. Many have died, while Uncle Sam just watches not giving a fuck.
But now he wants to do something about it, now that the threat has hit his neighborhood  ....
