This is the topic of a new song by E-A-SKI entitled Manuscript...has anyone heard it besides me?

Basically the premise of the song is that the only way for West Coast rappers to make a splash in the mainstream is to fuck with Dre or Ice Cube.....the east coast is home to all the labels....the major magazines (VIBE, SOURCE, etc.) are all east coast driven....so in essence, the West Coast gets shitted on in the rap game....

The song is tight....it definitely casts some stones at the East Side. What do you all think about this topic? Do you think the West Side is a fault for putting out bad music? Do you think people prefer an East Coast sound? This could become a heated debate....

in this case though, it's about the politics of the game and the fact that the west is the underdog....not an east/west beef but more like the west isn't represented in the mainstream....we all want to hear "good music" but are the west coast's avenues to success more limited? i think that's the question here.

I think that too many west coast artists are so worried about what they are not getting that they lose focus on making good muzik which only sets them that much further back. The majority of stuff I hear is garbage. & makin' songs about the east coast looks like some played out gimmick to get people to listen to a cd. I'm not a fan of east coast muzik, but they don't seem too concerned about artists out here...they worry about themselves & get that green.

do you think that west coast artists have a harder time of it in the mainstream sense? not east vs. west so much.....it's just that it seems that the west doesn't get any play in the east or south really....while east coast and southern shit bangs everywhere? i'm looking at it more like the west isn't really getting play equally....and maybe it is because the caliber of music here as a whole doesn't appeal to the masses (unless it's a dr. dre cut). i've been an e40 fan for a grip, and not that he gets that much radio play anyway, but you'd never hear that shit outside of the west coast. are we doomed to be regional?

The west coast has BEEN doomed for some time now...

To "Survive In This Game" (no pun intended) You..well..you need east coast lyrics..not east coast as in "metaphysical, never biblical, forever synical", but multi-syllables none the least...that ol "blah blah im so tight/blah blah every time i get high" shit is DEAD..and STILL getting kicked in the face every day by East/South.

I have my own theory about this whole subject. I kinda touched on it a few months back on the BART board......but basically it breaks down to phases.

Of course we all know that Hip-Hop started on the East Coast. But after a while.....people got sick of the East Coast sound. As time progressed.....the West Coast came into play....and we all know how that went down....and where it ended (it pretty much died with Pac). Boom....here comes the Dirty South......a new sound. OK.....well the South has pretty much had their time if you ask me.......mainstream-wise anywayz. Most of the Southern catz I see these days are just No Limit & Cash Money clones.

Now.....it's time for the East to shine again (time for the cycle to start over again). The whole Jay-Z & Nas feud......along with other high profile beefs have helped the East Coast region out in tremendous ways.......because let's face it kids.......controversy sellz. When the West Coast was kickin' up dust and all over the news......we were the shit. After Pac died.......Death Row went to shit......artists were splittin' left & right and it seemed like the whole West Coast network fell apart. The LA scene faded.....the Bay Area faded. The shit dried up I guess you could say. Not to say that there was something wrong with the music that was being released.......but catz just weren't checking for us the same. Established artists were left with their loyal fanbase......but the kids who go to the record store every week to spend their allowance on the so-called "hottest album out" weren't buying our shit no more. They are like most people.....and go with the "trends."

Anywayz......what I'm gettin' at is this.....the West Coast will rise again. And I honestly believe that the NW will be at the forefront of the next uprise. We just have to keep working and be patient......it's gonna happen. We ARE the next generation of West Coast hip-hop!!!! We just gotta get our shit together.....and be PATIENT. Alot of cats don't know how to be patient......they want it all now......and it's not going to happen. We have to keep doing what we're doing.....perfect our crafts.....build our fanbases......create a strong network of serious and dedicated people......and just wait for the East Coast to die down.

It will happen. The time is coming. :devious:

Why cant you just speak on the topic? People like you is the reason threads get clogged up with BULLSHIT, if you aint gonna speak on the topic (cuz you got the knowledge)...then dont bother. Anyways...

D-Sane hit it right on the mark...and i believe the NW is gonna rise, too, but even the great Tadou himself doesnt know how. Im thinkin its gonna start with Club Tracks, and then start leanin towards Cruisin/Chillin tracks, but uptempo ones, beats around 90-100bpm, not the slow ones...Honestly though...PURE HONESTY...that tongue-twistin stuff just aint playin these days...diss me if you want for sayin this, but i keep my ears open to EVERY COAST--

--and the only kind of people that can tongue twist and make it work is people like Mystikal, cuz he tongue-twists *AND* slows his flow down and enunciates(puts emphasis(stress) on words) words...

Not sayin NOBODY in the NW can make the tongue-twistin work, but enunciation is the key...all that rapid-fire stuff just aint workin...if you want examples, just look at Jay-Z, Nas, Jadakiss, THe Lox, Roc A Fella, A+, Az, Lil Flip, Lil Keke, Swisha House, Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris...they're all blowin up, and its cuz of 1) enunciation, and 2) flippin/reversin/squarin/double'in/turnin...

Im cuttin back on the novels, but i had to speak on this, cuz lyrics is the #1 and ONLY reason why the NW hasnt risen yet...and im tryin to see the NW rise just as much as the next man!
