Although UFC matchmaker Joe Silva mentioned last month that "The Ultimate Fighter 7" will feature middleweight fighters, Spike TV officials tell MMAjunkie.com that a weight class has not been determined and neither have the season's celebrity coaches. Once the UFC and Spike TV secure two coaches, the weight class will be announced officially.

However, it's fairly safe to assume that "The Ultimate Fighter 7" will likely feature middleweights or light heavyweights. "The Ultimate Fighter 5" featured lightweights, and the current season of the show features welterweights. And an eighth season planned for late 2008 is rumored to feature heavyweight fighters.

Applications can be found online at UFC.com. Applicants will need to send a video that includes an interview and fight/training footage. All cast members must be 21 years of age or older. Additionally, all applicants will be drug tested, and background checks will likely be conducted.

In talking with former and current cast members, MMAjunkie.com has learned that personal recommendations from UFC fighters and/or former cast members can help substantially in the application process. Blake Bowman, for example, was recommended by training partner and former cast cast member Cole Miller, and Jared Rollins got a spot on the show with help from Rob Emerson. So if you know a current fighter that can vouch for you, you'd be wise to call in a favor.
