http://www.politicalcompass.org/usprimaries2008

In response to many requests, not only from Americans, The Political Compass™ has charted the most prominent names in the 2008 US Primaries. They have been evaluated through scrutiny of public statements, manifestos, interviews and, crucially, voting records. Our apologies for those not included.

It is important to recognize that The Political Compass™ is a continuum rather than consisting of hard and fast quadrants. For example, Ron Paul on the social scale is actually closer to Dennis Kucinich than to many figures within his own party. But on the economic scale, they are, of course, far apart.

When examining the chart it is important to note that although most of the candidates seem quite different, in substance they occupy a relatively restricted area within the universal political spectrum. Democracies with a system of proportional representation give expression to a wider range of political views. While Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel are depicted on the extreme left in an American context, they would simply be mainstream social democrats within the wider political landscape of Europe. Similarly, Hillary Clinton is popularly perceived as a leftist in the United States while in any other western democracy her record is that of a moderate conservative.

Good thread, I didn't see this before. That's sad, cause the people closest to me are Ron Paul, Kucinich, and Gravel.

That's pretty sad that most of the candidates are more towards authoritarian type gov't, and mostly to the right--even though they claim they're on the left (Hillary for example).

I don't think there's any significant difference between a democrat or a republican. One is politically in the middle but leans slightly left. One is politically in the middle but leans slightly right. A radical liberal would never make it in the democratic party.

They aren't in the middle though. Thats the point.
Yup, as I've said before, they are the same.

This pretty much tells us that's true. Minus Gravel and Kucinich, everyone is on the RIGHT and towards AUTHORITARIAN....

The pendelum has swung from FREEDOM to SECURITY. All because most of America is filled with a bunch of numb nut, TV watching, idiots that believe anything that the fucking news or government tells them.

You say that, but then say if you had to vote you'd vote Ron Paul. Are you a walking contradiction or what?
I don't have to vote. So why should that even matter? In all honesty, after reading more in the past few days about the candidates, I don't think I could pick any of them.

And jesus, if I said, "if I had to vote." I mean really, I don't have to, so who cares?

Maybe I shouldn't say that ALL of any one group is the same, however, generally politicians are all the same. I don't know Ron Paul, never talked to him, so I don't know him or what he's really about. Nobody knows what these poeple are REALLY about, that's why they fucking vote for them...cause if they knew how much of a shit bag most of those people are, they wouldn't even be in the fucking race for president.

Now, walking contradiction? Why, cause I said IF I HAVE TO VOTE? Well, we dont' live in a world of IF's, so that doesn't matter what i would do IF. Cause if won't come to that, and even if it did, I wouldn't vote.

Maybe you looked into what I said the wrong way, I don't know. But saying that politicians are all the same (which MOST of them are, sorry if I wasn't 100% clear and making sure that you knew EXACTLY what i was thinking) and then saying if I had to vote for Ron Paul i probably would, that's not a contradiction.

That's saying that those fuckers pretty much say the same shit. Now, if you paid any attention at all to the words coming from the candidates mouth's, you'd know Ron Paul doesn't say shit that every other fucking candidate says. He's not the typical candidate--even though he is a Republican. The only reason I wouldn't vote for him is cause he's pro capitalism.

So, maybe you shouldn't take what I say so seriously about voting. Cause I don't care about voting--and I don't have to vote, so no matter what it doesn't make a difference.

If this doesn't clarify, I don't really know how to help you.
