The reason Tech N9ne is an elite level rapper has been debated on this forum and others, for quite some time. This is the reasoning behind why I think Tech is on the most elite of levels, regardless of the mainstream acceptance or not.
To be a legend in the rap game, and I mean a true legend, (not someone who has simply become successful and made a ton of money, i.e. T.I., Nelly,) and not simply because someone put a city on the rap map as Black Walt would say.
These are a few of the things that I feel make you a legend in this game.
1. You must have a completely distinct sound. (unmistakable voice)
Examples: Eminem, Tupac, Biggie,DMX, E - 40, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes
2. You must have the ablility to write material with substance.
Examples: Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, DMX (earlier albums)
3. Have a completely distinct delivery
Examples: Eminem (witty, white boy) Tupac (heartfelt passion filled) Twista (fast)
4. Must be Lyrically gifted with distinct wordplay abilities.
Examples: Eminem, Tupac, E-40, Jay Z, Nas,
5. Be able to write material that goes over the dumb part of your fanbase's heads
Example: Eminem, Tupac, Nas,
6. Be able to inspire people to do more than dance to the music.
Example: Eminem, Tupac, Common, Talib Kweli
7. Be original.
Insert non cookie cutter rappers here.
Not taking anything away from these rappers, but there are only a few that fit into all of the the categories, and to make a sports analogy out of this for those of you that say "well what about rappers that put a part of the country on the map i.e. the south" there has been alot of major league baseball players, basketball players, that have helped to win championships but very few are legendary.
Tech fits into all of these categories, along with the legends in this game, he posesses the ability to captivate a live audience, an audience listening to his cd, he is raw, shares his life, loves and hates. His delivery is distinct and flawless, filled with well thought out lyrics and wordplay.
Think about it really, and be honest, is there another rapper in existence right now, that can do all of that on the level that Tech does? If he was a baseball player he would be a "five tool" guy.
Guys, I know you are working hard, this game needs its next legend to emerge, he is waiting down below, and IT'S TIME.
