While it's far from completion, Talib Kweli's The Beautiful Struggle has been leaked to the streets. In a letter posted on Okayplayer.com, the BK emcee expressed his outraged at those who plan to profit from his music.

Point of clarification, ImRickJamesBitch is the name of the person that posted the link to DL Kweli's album on the Okayplayer site. Below is Kweli's responce and then a responce from ImRickJamesBitch.

Talib Kweli:

You know what, I’m a fan of hip-hop too. If I had a chance to get a hold of one of my favorite artists CD’s early, I would jump at it. So if some asshole from a recording studio leaks my unfinished, unmixed and uneven album, consider it a personal triumph. Play it for your friends, and if you like it, buy the version I want you to have. If you are a fan of my music, allow me to live off it so I can continue to bring it to you. But once you put it on a website and encourage people to download it, you become the bigger asshole. You are not respecting my artistic process and worse, you are taking food out of my children’s mouth. The shit is depressing really because I work so hard and I deserve the right to determine how I want my music presented. If you are truly a fan of my music, please do not support people who do this, no matter what the temptation might be. This music is what I have to live on. You also disrespect the other artists by spreading rough vocals and rough mixes. You really don’t give a fuck about nobody but yourself. It’s sad.
ImRickJamesBitch, are you that much of a loser that you gotta live off another man’s work? Put your own fuckin’ album on your website. Get you some pro tools, pay producers and studio time, get guest artits to come be on your shit. Then maybe you won’t be tempted to just disrespect somebody’s craft. Kanye shipped 800,000 records. How many records do you think I will ship? But yet you couldn’t resist to expose MY album? That shit is not fly. I will find out who you are and you will be dealt with accordingly. This is no threat. To everyone else, I am blessed that there is so much anticipation for what I hope will be a great album. I have never gone gold or platinum. If you think I should be by now please don’t support or do shit like ImRickJamesBitch; that shit does not help. I have a mixtape coming next week. Download that. Please help my cause, don’t hurt it, and I will always be the best artist I can be.

ImRickJamesBitch

I appreciate your announcement and definitely see some of your points. But I think your anger should be directed toward the nigga who stole your shit out the studio.
And everything was cool up until the "I will find out who you are and you will be dealt with accordingly" shit. Be a man about yours and don't speak in ambiguous phrases. Will YOU deal with me accordingly? If that is the case, you don't have to find out who I am. I can send you my info and you can come see me "accordingly". I'm not trying to be a tough guy, but you don't really pose a physical threat to me. So you might just want to abandon that option.

My opinion:
He might as well just take this as a lesson learned and move on.

Kweli needs to quit crying and learn to deal within a capitalist system where shit like bootlegging happens or else own up to his revolutionary chic and do something about it so he wouldn’t have to cry, about his children not getting fed, to anonymous people on the internet.

Considering the fact that what's done is done, and bitching about it isn't going to get the bootleg off the internet. Nor is it going to convince anyone NOT to download it. He'da came off a LOT better if he just took the whole thing in stride and didn't put so much anger and emotion into it. Especially since all his anger and emotion was completely misdirected at some internet alias rather than his crew, producers, engineers, studio, label, etc. Usually when folks attempt to tackle a problem, they go for the SOURCE, not the 4th and 5th leg message board heads who are downloading it and/or spreading the word

He is a grown damn man, and he knows how the business works. Its a cold world, if something is an obstacle then find a way around it.

Kweli played himself...

Talib is dope. If I were an MC trying hard to stay true and stay hip hop while riding the political rollercoaster of records and radio, I'd be pissed too. It's just like Pac....there is shit out now that he would have never wanted to see the light of day. Talib is upset not only because he is being bootlegged, but also because that is not the quality he wants floating around in the public. His shit wasn't finished. He deserves to get paid off of his art, period. I'll be buying his record, no question. He's one of the illest MC's in a dreary blinged-out hip hop game that's managed to keep my attention and respect over the years.

i usually dont give a rats ass about downloading a mainstream artists music cuz i look at it this way....ima broke ass foo and the 10-20 bones im gonna spend to buy an album will hurt my poccet way more than it will hurt the artists.....i know that shit adds up when a million people dl the shit but still a lot of artists like Eminem go multi platinum and im sure there are millions dl/ing his shit......i dig Talibs music though and i can feel his pain cuz he aint gone platinum or even gold.....he opts to make good music rather than sellin out to the bling bling and he isnt getting as much sales as the rest who do go that route....but i agree he should be angry at the source of the problem not some guy on the net.....this is why its good to have your own label and studio so that it decreases teh chance of this happening.....foos gonna have ta get like Nino Brown up in the lab and have they producers and engineers buttnaked recording.....lol....
