Points Understood. These were the ACADEMY picks for the SDMA's with the exception of Kayo. There is so much talent in Daygo so many artist get overlooked. My suggestion is look into who actually nominates these individuals and get into their ears.

The SDMA awards was actually a big deal but the hip hop category was overlooked. Shout out to Deep Rooted because they have been definetly doing their thing and deserved a nomination. San Diego Artist need to open up and find those networks to be recognized. Young Mass was nominated simply off San Diego Weekly Reader Exposure and minimal street promotion.

^^i agree. We met up with a citybeat reporter and voiced our concerns. Shout out ta Deep Rooted for the extra voice. Truth be told as long as the dude runnin it in charge its gonna be bias. Siccness should throw its own awards for San Diego. WE kan make that happen if we push. As far as that show at the casbah, kome out and support ya dude. I got an unlimited guestlist and some people you might wanna meet are gonna be in attendance. Plus, we gotta link up and lay that track we never did my nig... Oh and for those who don't kno, Fifth is Young Mass...

I wouldn't say she's wack but she damn sure shouldn't have gotten best hip hop. But at the same time you gotta look at things from the other side. The people who put these award shows aren't trying to get shot at a show trying to give an interview to some southeast rapper with 50 gang members in the crowd actin foolish. Which is why Mc Flow and some other random no name rappers are gonna win the award every year. Its not that they don't know hip hop, they just dont want a bullet in their ass.

I DONT THINK A BULLET IN THEY ASS IS THE REASON WHY DOPE ACTS AINT PUT ON. I TRULY BELIEVE THEY JUST DONT GOT A FUCKING CLUE ABOUT THE SCENE. NOT ALL DOPE SD ARTIST ARE GANG MEMBERS. YEAH WE GOT THE MITCHYS AND ECAY'S, BUT WE ALSO GOT THA COR, SNOW WHITE AND A GRIP OF OTHER SICK TALENT THAT PUTS IT DOWN AS WELL. This topics been brought up a few times on accesshiphop.com and other side discussions elsewhere. I say this no one gives a shit about the award show til there favorite rapper doesnt appear in it. With all the discussions online and in public if everyone was to get off there ass and actually vote when there suppose to maybe the real mufuckas that should be up there will win. Ive actually followed this bullshit ass award show for 3 years and I never know when the hell it is haha. Maybe someone should be appointed to actually call the people doing it find out when and where to vote and get the information to the public at large.

Then maybe we will get a accurate representation of SD.

In the meantime though everyone should just get together and do our own awards for SD Hip Hop. And I dont just mean rap. There are other elements to this game. Clubs, Bboy Events, Producers, DJ's, Shops, Clothing Lines and the list goes on...

Holler at the Armory if anyone wants to set it up....

the SDMA acadamy is made up of alot of the bookers and Talent Buyers from Venues like Canes, 710 Beach Club, Belly Up, HOB, Winstons in Ocean Beach etc....to get nominted you have to mail two CD's into the Academy before the deadline, and it was June 30th of this year for the 2008 Awards, prolly gonna be the same for next year...if you cats needs venues...hit up dude named Tim @ 710 Beach Club, Jason Welton @ Rileys in Point Loma..thats my dude and I set that place off throwing shows every friday when he first got the sound system....the Rythm Lounge off Midway in the Sport Arena area can be booked for $50 as long as you promote it yourself....there is alot of venues but they are spread out and there is just so many, and it is true alot of the well known places ain't gonna let us take responsibility for a full night cause they are unsure how it will turn out. Im def gonna slide through on Sunday...40 oz Chris put the Pigeons Camp on the list for the Casbah, and they do throw alot of Hip Hop Shows there....mostly underground shit though...I went to a smashing Jedi Mind Tricks show there a few years back...shit was Bananas....

seems to be a trend that MC's are fed up with the lack of coverage in SD, if you check the Access Hip Hop board (www.accesshiphop.com/forums) which is where alot of the Concious, Boombap, eastcoast type MC's post alot of shit, you would see the same complaints and ideas as here...there is alot of MC's in this city, carving out there spot, but it is so split up...that no one really ever know's whats really going on...

proper hustle and ambition is way more important than skill in this bussiness...not from a quality stand point, but if you actually want to make money and a name for yourself... example being the best MC's will prolly never be heard because they don't know the proper channels, but garbage dudes who kill it on the promo have the oppurtunity to go Platinum off ringtones...the industry is backwards now that Pro Tools is affordable and fruity loops makes your beats sound professional automatically...there used to be sort of a Filter to weed out the bullshit, cause recording was expensive and only really serious dudes would cough the chips up....but now there is 50,000,000 MC's who all think they are that next dude so....you got to work as hard a you possibly can to seperate yourself from those dudes..sit back and watch, educate yourself on the scene and industry, learn who does what and how often, all that shit has helped me out alot..I don't even have an album out and I have done over 30 shows all over the place since March and had the pleasure to lace a few verses featured on some big albums this year....all of them joints dropping in 2009...BEWARE..haha..Just Bullshiting.
