One of the NBA's best on-the-ball defenders is back in the league.

Lindsey Hunter, a 15-year veteran, signed a contract with the Chicago Bulls on Thursday.

Contract terms were not disclosed by the team, but a source told ESPN.com that Hunter agreed to a one-year, nonguaranteed contract. His salary will be a prorated share of the veteran's minimum of about $1.3 million for players with at least 10 years' experience.

Hunter is expected to be in uniform Thursday night when the Bulls play host to the Dallas Mavericks.

He will add a veteran presence to a roster already jam-packed with guards, although the backcourt has been depleted by injuries to Larry Hughes (dislocated shoulder) and Kirk Hinrich (thumb surgery).

Hughes is expected to return as early as this weekend, while Hinrich is out at least three months. Hunter could see minutes as the backup point guard behind rookie Derrick Rose, who is averaging a team-high 38 minutes. The Bulls had been carrying only 14 players on their roster, and thus did not need to waive anyone to make room for Hunter.

Hunter spent the past five seasons with the Detroit Pistons, mostly as a defensive specialist regarded as one of the league's best at pressuring the ball in the backcourt. He appeared in 11 playoff games for the Pistons last season and recorded eight steals.

Chris Sheridan covers the NBA for ESPN.com.

Good win tonight. Down by 20 + early in the game, and getting the win vs. Dallas.

Ben Gordon with 35 points to lead the team, and Derrick Rose had 16 points, 6 assists and 9 rebounds, and his first game with 0 turnovers.

Nowitski had 12 points on 5-17 shooting.

Rose played Jason Kidd real tough tonight, too. Held him to 9 pts, 4 assists, with 5 turnovers.

You're giving the Warriors too much credit! LOL! Like they caused Dallas to ''fall off''...

They made it to the Finals ONCE, with that big-ass payroll, the fucking Yankees of basketball, at the time. They're ALWAYS underachievers. I give the Warriors a bunch of credit for knocking them off, but you act as if they brought a proud, perennial powerhouse to their knees. Nah...it's just the post-season doormat known as the Mavericks. In all reality, they've never been the same since Popeye Jones left.

And Dallas has a ton of talent on that team. Again, no disprespect, but Terry is a better guard than anyone you have on your squad right now, Howard could be the same, and Nowitski is DEFINATELY better than anyone of his position on your team. Don't act like we beat the Gonzaga Bulldogs; it's not hard to give a little credit.

For instance: the Warriors, when healthy (Ellis, mainly) could run with any team in the league, and on any night could beat ANY team in the league with their offense. Not consistanly...but hey, you gotta start somewhere.
