Special Subterranean Information Newswire:
REYKJAVIK, Iceland, 11/19/2002, 12:06 PM GMT—At a news conference held today at his North Pole headquarters, Kristoff “Santa” Claus made a major announcement: His international gift distribution syndicate has finally acknowledged losing its monopoly on Christmas in Southern California and falling to second place in holiday party prowess. After four years of intense competition, SP Labs International has claimed the first place crown, largely due to the success of its annual production of The Night Hip Hop Stole Christmas. This year’s show will be the fifth since 1998’s inaugural banger and experts predict it will be far and away the best to date. To be held at the 10,000-person capacity Orange Showplex, it will feature performances by KRS-One, Boot Camp Clik, Living Legends, Medusa, and other underground heroes as well as a second area, graffiti and turntablism exhibitions, and a b-boy battle for a winner-take-all $1,000 prize.
SP Labs, whose Christmas team is fronted by Claus’s twin brother, Grandmaster J. Claus-ski, is particularly upbeat with news regarding the upcoming winter issue of SP Magazine. This edition, Volume 3, Issue 1, follows the success of a new video and clothing line, plus recent issues fronting Jurassic 5 and the Roots, with a Talib Kweli/GZA double cover. Also featured will be Common, Lyrics Born, and Atmosphere. Speaking from his office at one SP’s underground laboratories in an undisclosed location, Claus-ski declared, “This Christmas, SP’s going to blaze LA like never before!”
