The Low-Flow Playaz is a new group from Gary,Indiana. It's made of Apollo Greed and Flazh, Apollo is also the producer of the group. ''Makin Moves'' is their first album, it has features from Father Tyme, Komain, MCG'z, Finger Roll (of Outside), Freddie Gibbs and more. Production by Apollo, Tension (of the Midwest Mobstaz series) and Finger Roll (the man who brought the classic Outside's debut ''Ain't no tamin''.
The Low-Flow Playaz came out with lyrics dealing with pain, struggles and haters. Flazh has a I'ma beat yo ass type of style and he can rap pretty fast too. Apollo Greed has a singing/tongue twisting style and he almost sounds like he could have been a member of Bone thugs. They filled the songs with rapid-fire flows. You can feel their sadness on some songs and their anger on others.
After hearing them rapping on the intro, you already know they ain't here to make you laugh, because they got shit to get off their chests. ''Roll Up'' is a song you can floss too, it's something than can be bumped by both fans of the mainstream and supporters of the underground. ''Wtha'' is the worst song of the album, it features Freddie Gibbs, he reminds me a little bit of Lil'Flip, but much harder, I'm not feeling the contents of this song, they're asking where dem hoes at ? They don't disappoint with their flows though. Apollo really shows you he can sing on ''Conflict In Civilizationz'', the beat is laid back, something you can play early in the morning and it's the type of song that will make you think. ''Midwest Thang'' is straight gutter, SkrewFace of MCG'z goes off over a solid beat made of horns, they're representing the Midwest on this one. ''Apollo Vs.Greed'' is a solo by Apollo, he's rapping fast as fuck, if you like Komain, you'll bump this dude here, they changed the beat in the middle of the song so he could flow even faster. Flazh really impresses me on ''Walk With Me'', he talks about coming up, the beat has a East coast gangsta sound, tight piano loops and heavy bass. ''Jeepin'' is one of the only cuts that doesn't get a lot of plays from me, it's a song about hoes cheating, it's time to move on if that hoe doesn't love you, the beat is club sounding and it's alright. Damn, they're flowing outta control on ''Makin Moves'', the beat has some violins and a pretty fast tempo, I just wished the hook could have been a lil' bit more creative.
''Contol'' has a sad sounding beat, I really like the singings in the chorus, Apollo comes out with some tight tongue twistings, telling you how does a Low-Flow playa roll. ''Get Paid'' has a decent beat, it's just too simple, but their flows are fast and on point as usual. Flazh raps about the problems he dealt with while growing up on ''Love And Hatred'', problems he had with his family, the beat has a mid tempo, he's rapping a lil' bit slower, you really feel his sadness, I thought he sounded like Pastor Troy, but tighter, this is a song I can relate to. Track 13 ''About Time'' features Komain, I've been hearling alot of good songs from him lately, they have a girl singing in the hook, Komain shows you his skills, he started kind of slow, but then he began twisting and you'll be like DAMN ! ''This Shit'' is another song that lacks a tight beat, but it ain't that bad, because their flows make it bumpable. Freddie Gibbs makes his 2nd and final appearance on ''Drama'', he drops a slow gangsta verse over a mob sinister beat, if you like the old Gary sounding shit, this one is for you. ''Roll Up pt.2'' features my favorite rapper Father Tyme aka Da Indiana Hammer, instead of changing the beat, they added new lyrics, Tyme spits another classic verse, if there's one man who can take Twista' s spot, Tyme is the man.
The first bonus track is the chopped and screwed version of ''Conflict In Civilizationz'', it's as tight as the original. Apollo explains to you ''What Does The Greed Mean'' on the next track, the song has a RnB beat, Apollo came snapping.
You can tell that the last track ''Call My Own'' is an older song, because the sound quality isn't that good, I've heard worse though, Apollo tells you he gave up eveything just to have something he could call his own.
Overall, this is one of the best cds I heard this year. The album has it all, tight beats, good topics and the way they rap it's just too catchy. Not only can Apollo rap, but his beats are super tight (with the exception of 2 or 3). The average hustler can relate to them. My favorite songs are ''Roll Up pt.2'', ''Love And Hatred'', ''Walk With Me'' and ''Control''. The worst tracks are ''Wtha'' and ''Jeepin'', they're still bumpable though. If you're tired of the commercial bullshit that lacks concept, GET THIS CD.
