i was reminiscing with another designer who was around when the siccness art forum was at itz best, and we were both sayin how if it wernt for the hints & tips of the other more knowledgeable artist on the board we would have never gotten as good as we have gotten.........and ive always help'd out anybody who's had the missfortune to instant messange me, so i thought "why the hell isnt the siccness crackin like it use too?"............it because nobody helps anyone any more.........so, (shit didnt think this was gonna turn out to be so long winded) what i thought we could do is post one or two tips/hint/what ever the fuck you wanna call it........nuttin huge, dont have to give away your "trade secrets"....just something that should help a youngster just startin out.

and please, if you think a tip someone gave is stupid, be respectful and say something like "a better way to do this would be............."
not "STFU asshat" :devious:

my tip to the youngsters:

to make your pics, you've cut out, blend better with the rest of you design; be sure to put a slight blur on your edges (maybe a 5-10 pixel soft edge brush at 10%)

Hey, I resent that... E-Weezy does mods a graphix forum over at raptalk. Hey E-Weezy. I haven't been on RT in ages. Tried logging in a few times but I can't remember my password even if it kills me. And the email they have on account is bogus. How's things going with RT these days?

TIP:

If you want to colorize something don't use Hue/Saturation, but make a new layer above, fill it with a color and play around with the blending (overlay, soft light, darken, color burn etc.) and opacity. if you ain't happy with any result you still can use Hue/Saturation.

would that work better if you desaturated the layer 1st then did the color overlay cuz if you just do the above you get color blending like yellow + blue = green once you play w/ the blending?

Tip: make your desktop a plain grey so it doesn't distract from your work

okay a real Tip:
how to make your own brushes
first choose an image
then adjust the curves to were there is a strong contrast
next go under Select > Color Range and eyedrop over the darkest or lightest spot which ever you would like to be the brush
then click OK after that create a new layer, set the foreground color to black, using the paint bucket fill it.
next deselect, create a new layer and fill it with white then move this layer behind the one you just filled with black
now you should have only a black and white image showing
go to Edit > Define Brush Preset

simple as that play with and create your own brush

Tip:
Try this easy and nice effect: Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur a layer, immediatly afterwards go to edit and it's called something like Fade Gaussian Blur..., there you choose Darken then. Play around with the blurring and fading settings and you get acceptable and useful results sometimes.

Here comes another one:
When you are using multiple layers of eachother to create a bg or texture with the help of brushes, then invert the colors on 1 or maybe even 2 out of 5 layers. It will give your texture/bg kind of actuall highlights. (good for grunge bgs)

Tip:
Just to add Outer Glow to your text sometimes hurts the shape of your text, makes it look edgy everywhere. So, you better duplicate the layer, change the first layer to the color of your choice, rasterize the same layer and add the filter Gaussian Blur. If the Gaussian Blur is not strong enough you can duplicate that layer a few times.

glad to see this thread starting to take off.......

heres another tip:

when smoothing out wrinkles or other skin perfections try this:
duplicate the layer, then do a heavy gaussian blur (at least 3.5 pixels)

then add a layer mask

with your paint bucket tool put black over the mask (this will make the blur'd layer invisible)
then, with a small soft edge brush with the opacity at about 5-10%, use the color white to slowly go over the wrinkles......you will see them start to blend.....take your time

do it until your satisfied

itz not perfect, but it does work if you take your time
