Wherehouse Entertainment have filed for bankruptcy, but their urban buyer, Violet Brown, holds a lotta influence on the way titles are stocked in what is still a major chain. Just wanted to know fron the industry folks on this board if she is still a factor in the Bay Area / West Coast rap game because I have heard rappers and promoters talk about her a lot. It's just funny how a obese Caucasian woman influences hip-hop.

and a difficult job at that....

Violet has bought our shit even when we was smaller than we are now, giving us the opportunity to grow and be on the shelves right next to Dr. Dre.

By the way,a word of advice -if you are in the biz, you can't badmouth folx like that - it's suicide

Violet Brown is the epitome of what a true champion of hip-hop is. Her influence on the Bay market is significant but her influence throughout the country is much bigger. Its evident in her work with artists such as Mack 10, Master P, NWA, Eminem, Tech N9ne, and her own "In The Beggining There Was Rap" compilation which went GOLD on Priority Records.

She consults for alot of labels and artists and she goes back to hip-hop way before Wherehouse Music when she was a DJ in Uncle Jam's Army in LA. Violet could be found at all the swap meets, parties and KDAY. Recognize. Shes a good woman and a strong supporter of indie rap as a whole.
