THE man who owns “the house that looks like Hitler” found out his property had become a global internet sensation thanks to a phone call from Germany.

Former Swansea University computer analyst Clive Davies, 65, had been oblivious to the world- wide attention his slope-roofed home in Port Tennant Road, St Thomas, Swansea, has received this week.

But on Thursday he got a call from his daughter- in-law Alison from her home at the British military base in Wildenrath, Germany.

She had been alerted by her husband Guy, a Signals Regiment warrant officer currently stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan, who spotted his father’s home on various internet sites.

Media Wales’ WalesOnline website was the first news site to highlight the house, whose slanted roof is said to be reminiscent of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s hairline.

And a door lintel beneath suggests to some Hitler’s infamous toothbrush moustache.

The “likeness” was first picked up by Swansea youth worker Charli Dickenson, 22, whose snap of the house went global, even being picked up on the websites of UK comics Jimmy Carr and Charlie Addison.

Since then it has been featured on websites and radio and TV shows across the world.

Mr Davies has converted the house, which has been in his family for many years, into two flats and it is now rented out to tenants.

He said: “God only knows what the tenants make of all the fuss.

“Just so long as I’m not expected to chant ‘Sieg Heil’ as I walk through the front door.”

Ironically, said Mr Davies, the house was nearly bombed on Hitler’s orders.

He described the wartime bombing of Swansea Docks by Hitler’s Luftwaffe as “ruddy dangerous”.

The house, more than a century old, stands just a few hundred yards from the docks, now mostly re-developed as Swansea’s SA1 quarter.

The house was originally an outfitter’s store and has also been a newsagent, a florist’s shop and a TV repair shop before being converted into flats in the 1980s.

Neighbour, Lyn Thomas, 25, said: “I can see a resemblance now.

“I’ve lived here for two years but have never noticed anything before.

“I don’t know why it would be designed in such a way. It is uncanny.”

Another neighbour said: “People are joking that the house is the third on the Reich and that we live on the Western Front.

“You have to see the funny side of life sometimes.”

no resemblance at all. I'd rather see a loaf of bread that has Hitlers face baked into it. That be worth an article in the paper not this Home that looks like a home...
