I been thinking about something. During the 90's, rap was aimed towards the street crowd because thats who bought most rap CD's. As time passed til around the 2000 era, the streets stopped buying CD's and started burning them. That kind of slowed down money in the music industry. Thats why u would see artists who had a major buzz in the streets because of their talent but wouldnt even make gold because their CD wasnt selling in stores, but everybody had it because of piracy. Back in the day, it wasnt nothin for a talented artist to go platinum in no time, but its not like that no more because we'll burn their CD instead of buying it, taking away money. The industry's solution for that was to stop making music for the street crowd and cater to the crowd that buys CDs the most, and that would be suburban white kids and females. A lot of white kids buy into the industry's gangsta image and the females buy into the sex appeal that they see in male singers and rappers...therefore, they end up buying CDs from these artists. I feel that if the streets wouldve never stopped buying CDs instead of burning them, that hip hop would still cater to the streets. Its all about money and the music industry is catering to the crowd that will come out the pocket and buy CDs from the store. So basically, I think piracy is the reason for this. Just a thought of mine.

Piracy in my opinion has a much smaller role than the quality of cds being turned out by artists.

Blaming women and white people is just plain stupid. Its the artist's fault if they want to "cater" to a certain group of people to sell more cds.

But then again, your post isnt about the quality of Hip Hop which is the real downfall, its about the sales. The only two aspects of your post which deal quality are "street" and "catered" which are pretty ambigious in Hip Hop anyways.

If youd like to read my whole 2cents there is a thread called "Is Hip Hop Dead?" I made which is just below your thread.

There you go with the bullshit. I didnt blame women and white kids, I said theyre the biggest buyers of hip hop CDs. Thats not blaming them, dumb ass. Anybody with some sense would see that the only thing Im blaming is piracy for the downfall. If the industry felt like they can make some money from promoting talented artists, then they would do that. But they dont feel a need to because the crowd who likes talented artists will just burn their CD. Its a shame I gotta repeat what I said from the beginning because yall wanna make it seem like Im being racial and shyt. Just plain dumb.

come on guys dont turn this into a hate thread....

i think the biggest problem (for me) is: i live in canada, and 99% of the hot shit comes from the states, CDs take like months (if ever) til they are available in the stores here. its cuz the hiphop/rap genre isnt as big here as it is in the usa...anyway that is why i burn/download CDs. some CDs today are crap and i wouldnt even waste a cd-r on them. also, some CD prices are outrageous and i would never waste a 20 dollar bill for 3 or 4 good songs when i could burn 7-8 CDs onto 1 data disc to slump in my explorer....

theres still artists makin music out there for the streets, a lot of cats from all areas, not just the south or west or east, but artists from ALL areas still makin music for the streets. the 90s was the birth of real gangsta rap, thats why u might say music was directed to the streets...its not that gangsta rap is dead, its just taken in a different direction....it sounds different, and its way more popular, commercialized, and socially accepted today......

and put yourself in the shoes of the artist...they are doing what they gotta do to put food on the table and a roof over their heads....things come and go, change is inevitable....if artists gotta steady make music for the crowds to make money, then thats what they gotta do. its either that, or quit rappin, and back to the d-game or somethin...

you can't blame piracy for the wack music

if there's something piracy can do it is to drive the wack shit out of the market

if there was no piracy the only way you could hear an album would be to buy it; and that's they way a properly advertised bullshit can sell a lot

if everybody can hear the album before buying it, nobody would buy the wack shit; it's simple as that

of course this means that people will buy albums just to support the artists and they will never sell as many units as they used to, but the quality should improve

U missed the whole point. The point is that the industry is making music for the crowd that will go to the store and buy CDs. Now if we pirated more this bullshit that comes out today and went to the store and bought more talented artists, then the industry would start promoting talent again. But theyre not makin money from artists who have the streets as their fanbase because they know they wont sell in stores, everybody will burn their CDs. This is my 3rd time havin to explain this to you, if u dont understand it this time then I'll be convinced youre stupid for real.

I feel ya thought

But I was thinking also, what if the internet service provider cost went up? Then the less people would have internet and be going out to the stores and buy shit. So, while internet costs low or middle price, they're still able to download anything.....

I AGREE 2 A CERTAIN ExTENT...

PIRACY IZ A MAJOR ISSUE IN DA DOWNFALL OF HIP HOP/RAP...

BUT I WONT BLAME PIRACY ALONE, DA INDUSTRY/MOST MAJOR RECORD LABELz CAPITALIzED ON IT...

MOST OF'EM DONT CARE OR REALLY EVEN FEEL REAL STREET MUSIC...

CUZ MOST OF'EM NEVA BEEN ON DA STREETz OR CAME FRUM DA STREETz...

SO IT ALSO KINDA MADE IT EAzY 2 ExILE MOST ARTISTz WHO HAVE BECOME UNDERGROUND ...

AN IT KINDA PUSH'D AWAY MOST OF SUM ARTISTz FANBASEz...

CUZ IT MAKEz DA ARTIST LOOK LIKE THEY "FELL OFF"...

WHEN IN REALITY, DA INDUSTRY CHANGED AN FORCED MANY STREET ARTISTz 2 AN UNDERGROUND CIRCUIT...

NOW DA POWER AINT REALLY IN DA HANDz OF WHO IT ONCE WAZ...

BUT IT CAN B IF DA RIGHT MOVEz GET MADE...

NOW MOST MAJOR INDUSTRY FIGUREz ONLY SIGN ACTz THEY CAN RELATE 2...

OR ACTz THEY THEMSELVEz COULD SEE THEMSELVEz LISTEN 2...

RAPPERz THEY CAN RELATE 2...

OR RAPPERz THEY CAN SHAPE/MOLD INTO SUMTHIN THEY CAN SELL...

SO WIT DAT COMEz ALOT OF WISHY-WASHY CHARACTERz...

AN ITz JUS LIKE A VIDEOGAME LIKE "GRAND THEFT AUTO" OR "SAINTz ROW"...

THEY CREATE THEzE CHARACTERz IN DA MUSIC INDUSTRY 2 APPEAL 2 A CERTAIN LISTENING CATEGORY...

AN IT WORKz...

CUZ A REAL STREET NIGGA AINT GONNA LET U SHAPE/MOLD HIM INTO SHIT...

HE KNO HE GOTTA B REAL OR HE GONNA LOSE DA STREETz...

BUT IF DA RAPPER WE'RE TAWKIN ABOUT AINT EVEN FRUM DA STREETz IN DA 1ST PLACE...

WHY WOULD HE WORRY ABOUT LOSIN DA STREETz ?

Ok Kindergarten.

Thats EXACTLY what your saying and thats where your argument comes up short handed. If you are a rap artists/producer you are finding a great exuse to pass the buck for why your music sucks. Not just that, but the regionalization of the rap game and the emergence of independent records definitely skew the release of a major artist.

So does interest! People dont want to hear Busta Rhymes, Bubba Sparxx, DMX and all these other washed up acts that keep doing the same thing over and over.

Forget about the QUALITY of the music and you have an argument (as I mentioned earlier your first post had nothing to do with the content of the music besides grouping hip hop into two ambigious camps).

If the industry felt like they can make some money from promoting talented artists, then they would do that. But they dont feel a need to because the crowd who likes talented artists will just burn their CD.
That defies the laws of economics which is what record labels are all about....

Its a shame I gotta repeat what I said from the beginning because yall wanna make it seem like Im being racial and shyt. Just plain dumb.
