U.S. Senate takes up bill combatting illegal downloading

The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee announced [yesterday] it had unanimously approved a bill giving the Justice Department new powers to combat websites that illegally offer copyrighted content for sale, download, or streaming. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act, sponsored by Senators Patrick Leahy (D, Vt.) and Orrin Hatch (R, Utah), would allow federal law enforcement to effectively shut down websites that demonstrably participate in the regular unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material. Several Hollywood guild organizations, including SAG and the DGA, issued a joint-statement in support of the bill, saying, “We believe today’s committee action is the first step in making it much more difficult for rogue site operators to run their sites with impunity.”

Pretty useless. All the music that's worth buying, I buy. If it isn't and I downloaded it, I wouldn't pay for it anyways.

I support good music. Local or commercial. Period.

As someone who makes money from album sales, I am glad Congress gives a fuck, even if they may not be successful with this attempt.
Trust me, if the album is good or the artist has a good history, people will still buy. It's all about the marketing and who you know. The real money this day in age comes from your actual image.

We live in a different era now. Everyone claims to be singers and producers and with the rise of computer based music it's even harder to filter out the crap. Whether you truely are a great musician or not, the way I see it, don't get your hopes up. The money might be good nonetheless if your doing a bunch of lil projects, but to reach the upper status, you must become celebrity icon status. That's just the way our culture works.

BTW, I'm not talking directly to you FiltyRich, just generally speaking. Keep doing what you do if it makes you happy.
