I've been anticipating this album since I first heard Boots mention it on his msg board, over a year ago. So today I decided i'd type it into google and see what's up and I found this one article.

The most interesting part of the article was this:

On his fifth album, tentatively titled Fuck You, Pay Me and due later this year, Riley promises a grittier, rawer sound -- "more Funkadelic than Parliament, more Dirty Mind than Purple Rain" -- shaped with help from former members of Sly and the Family Stone (the first single, "Show Your Ass," is out this summer). More promising still, Riley is working on a boatload of other projects, including the funk-rap group Defiant and the live funk band Baby Daddy. He's also hatching plans for a label he says will be a "revolutionary Motown."

I remember in an interview with Boots sometime over a year ago he talked about doing a project with Dead Prez, I think it might of been defiant but I cant rememer to well, could be mistaken. I hope boots starts putting shit out soon. It's my fav group in hiphop.

Tight, Thanks for the info Mac. I was wondering if they were going to release anything. I havnt heard about them in a while.

I've been waiting for a new Coup LP for a while. Boots is a music genius. I was disappointed with the last release from The Coup "Party Music". It just didnt compare to their previous releases (Kill My Landlord, Genocide & Juice, & Steal This Album). I hope this new CD is a banger. I would like to see E-roc come back to the group.

Got some new info, the cd isn't going to be called fuck you pay me, it's going to be called Pick a Bigger Weapon.. and it's supposed to come out sometime in the fall..

plus the label they are signed to is going to release a compilation called punk-o-rama, with a new song on it called laugh love fuck, which comes out in june.

And if you're a coup fan i found this song by DJ Zeph featuring Boots riley that you might wanna check out:

Yeah the coup signed with epitaph, use to be a small good punk label, but now they they're huge and most of there signed bands suck. I didn't see anything about them releasing their new album though. Anyways heres a link to that new record they're gonna be on, these records only cost about 4-5$ last time I checked. http://www.epitaph.com/bands/index.php?id=430

Yeaaah epitaph is mostly a punk label, they released shit by groups like Nofx, Bad religion, Pennywise, Rancid, ect.. if you're into punk music you've probably heard of them.

But lately they've been releasing some hiphop including Sage Francis, Gift of Gab, Eyedea, Lyrics Born, and of course The Coup.

I think The Coup being on epitaph is great because it will give them better distribution then the other labels they used to be on.. I live in Canada and I couldn't find a coup cd in any store until epitaph re-released party music.

aridan3at,

In my opinion Party Music was a great cd. But if you ain't heard the other cds then you definetly are in for a treat.. check into it. Might be hard to find them in stores but you can download them easy.

To get the DVD try www.thecoupdvd.com If your not in the states or don't have paypal/creditcard you can email Chris Wroubel @ [email protected] and he'll set something up with you.

This is what's on the DVD:

8 music videos. (35-40 min)
Eating forever ( southafrican hip hop travelog. (30 MIN)
interview with boots and pam ( 30 min approx)

Apparently on the dvd artwork there is a mistake and it says it's 2 discs, but now there is only one disc - same content just the compression has been fixed.

Saw this one thegiantpeach.com

"The Coup's new album will be out late August/early September, entitled
"Pick A Bigger Weapon". It is being released by Epitaph Records. An
early single, "My Favorite Mutiny", featuring Black Thought and Talib
Kweli will be released this summer. It is their longest album. It is
our weirdest album. It is anthemic. The production is at a much higher
level. It's fun. It's mean. It's funky in a way that you didn't know
hip-hop could be and still be edgy and hard. It's silly. It's our best
album yet- of course I'm gonna say that though"

http://www.thegiantpeach.com/news/db/archives/000986.php

Must mean it's coming out soon?
