damnit!! this thread is simply asking if you think an average baseball play can get big like bond in two years. we aren't talking about if bonds took steroids or not. you guys fucked this thread up soo much.
Alright, my bad...but let me give this a shot w/o using steroids as the answer. OOPS I CAN'T because until someone can legitly make a comparison to Barry's power production and growth after the age of 35 to just lifting weights and using supplements then you have to throw HGH and steroids into the ring.
For one...I believe someone else mentioned this before...Barry grew exponetially in the period of one offseason. It didn't take 2 years I don't think.
1998-1999...everyone noticed it. I've been following baseball for years and I cant remember ANYONE throwing on 30-40 pounds in a single offseason....well except for the Royal's Runnelvys Hernadez but that's from lifting tacos to his mouth.
IF this can be achieved in a single offseason with out the help of performance enhancers then why aren't other players who are in the midst of their prime doing it?
Manny Ramierez...he's the same age as Bonds in 98...you don't think that if he would really get crazy and bulk up to 230 next year he wouldn't want extra power?
He's a 40-120 guy every year. If he thought he could legitly add 25-30 pounds by next season I think he would do it. Or if a trainer on the Red Sox staff came to him and said "Manny, you could really bennefit from a crazy training regimen this next offseason". He would be like hell yes.
Why hit 40+ when you can hit 50+?
Manny may be a bad example because of how lazy dude is, but throw in any power hitter there...Delgado, Pujols, Vlad, Konerko, these guys are all at or around the same age. I think if it was possible to do what Barry did to his body they would jump at the chance if it was healthy and legal.
So I guess the simple answer is....NO
I don't think the average baseball player can do what Bonds did otherwise they would be doing it.
