This is a topic from another board I thought I would post it here.
This is my take on going NATIONAL! I know most of yall don't really know me or my label "On The Block Records" but I been in this for a min. I don't claim to know it all but I feel to really go national you first must have a national sound that will be excepted nationally not just, good production, good recording, and good mastering, your music must appeal to more then just one coast I find a lot of us on the West get caught up with the West coast sound which I love but is not excepted past the Midwest. Ive been in this game for over 13 years and rubbed elbows with many cats on a national level & chopped it up with them trust me they aint feeling alot of stuff we do here in alot of the big markets like Miami, Detroit, New york, and Georgia. Once you get the sound right then it really comes down to your budget 10% music 90% marketing. I mean like this I feel On The Block has the sound right, we are in every FYE, Wherehouse, & Major Malls from Tacoma - Florida with our new Comp "State of Emergency" now thats NATIONAL! But until its marketed on that same level its really NOTHING. So whom ever can achieve this will go National and I don't mean sell out!
