some of the speeds this person uses arent even speeds that people typically drive at....
so his argument is flawed.

"If a car cruising on the highway at 80 km/h requires 30 kilowatts to overcome air drag, that same car will require 240 kilowatts at a speed of 160 km/h."

80kmp = 49.71 mph ok thats a speed that you might encounter everyday riiiiiight?
but
160kph = 99.42 mph ....who the fuck is on the steady cruising along at 99 mph?

I mean his numbers as far as the kilowatts are accurate but he is overexaggerating
numbers to make it seem way worse

now if dude used normal speeds
65mph = 104.6 rounded to 105kpm numbers would be Waaaaay different.
plus the drag equation is an approximation.

then why use those numbers...?? headline says how to reduce consumption by 75%
another thing is our cars are currently designed to travel more efficently at highway speeds...
its just to gerneral of an argument thats all
not my comment but one of the others on there that I agree with

"how many cars can you think of that require 240KW (321 horsepower) to reach 160km/h (100mph)??? My car is an average size saloon car and has only 92KW (123 horsepower) and it is well capable of cruising at over 200km/h (112mph)!"

that is mainly wishful thinking. not enough people are going to be willing to drive like a grandma to save fuel. what i think they should do is just shut off 95% of traffic lights at night in most cities. so many fucking times at night a light turns red on me just because some fuck is on a sidestreet turning right onto the street i am on, but the light still turns for him even though he was only turning right. so by having that light turn red for me and having me sit there getting 0 mpg for the 30 seconds or whatever, if you multiply that by the millions of people that have that happen to them every minute across the country, THAT is a lot of fuel we could save.

The 75% is not the argument, the argument is that power consumption ~ the cube of speed, which means a lot
