So don't think that because Republicans support lower taxes, in general, that their political moves will benefit you. I don't make too much money, so Bush's taxes cuts aren't helping me at all, and meanwhile, the national deficit is still mounting.

I never said I didn't pay any federal income tax. I said I didn't make too much money, which is vague, so I guess I should have elaborated (although, you made a large assumption and took things off track).

I do well enough, but I don't make serious amounts of cash. Thus, my federal return helps me to a very small extent, despite the fact that I make more money than many others around the area.

Therefore, it seems that the federal gov't would have benefitted more from keeping the tax rates higher and bringing in more revenue, than middle to lower class households will benefit from paying a little bit less in taxes. Meanwhile, the rich are reaping huge benefits. Simply put, I don't believe in trickle down economics. Even if they did work, they don't help the economy where we need to help it--at the bottom.

First off, I work my ass off and I'm far from rich, so I value my income as much as the next man.

One of the main problems with the flat tax is that it SUPPORTS the lazy people. People who don't have to work because of inheritance, etc. will pay ZERO taxes under the flat tax system, while everyone else pays the maximum ammount. Thus, they will contribute nothing to the society that afforded them their wealth.

At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if we did move to a flat tax in the near future

thats your opinion. but whether you want to believe it or not, our economy is designed to help the people with money. the top 5-10% of the wealthiest people have the majority of all of the money. and not all rich people work their ass off. sounds crazy but a lot of them inherit and are born into money. our economy supports this which isn't bad. but a system that doesn't support people at all levels will only continue to work for the ones that create it.
