I got it of course.

The Members of Temple of the Dog came together to pay tribute to Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone (great band check them out if you haven't already) who died of a herioin overdose in 1990. The band was Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard of Mother Love Bone (Gossard went on to play the guitar in Pearl Jam) Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden. The album also features Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam (a few years before they themselves became big though.)

It is a great album and certainly a classic. Any fan of Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone or Pearl Jam who doesn't have this should pick it up ASAP.

Cornell is an amazing songwriter and has some of the most powerful vocals I have ever heard.

I know you might have already known that info. RedStorm...I was just putting it up for anyone who doesn't that might check this thread.

Yeah he was too. Mother Love Bone more or less became Pearl Jam after Andrew passed away and Eddie joined.

I forget exactly how the story goes but it's something along the lines of...

The rest of the band made a demo without a singer and one of the members (I forget who) girlfriend was friends with Eddie Vedders girlfriend. Eddie got holf of the tape from his girlfriend down in Cali. and dubbed his vocals over it and sent it back. They asked him to join the band and bought him a plane ticket to Seattle...the rest if history.

I figured you'd have it, homie. Mike McCready plays some great lead guitar on that album; he can bust some dope ass solos. I've been meaning to get a Mother Love Bone album for like the last 5 years but never did for some reason. What do you recommend, Nuttkase?

Mother Love Bone had an EP called Shine which pretty hard to find and a full length named Apple. Apple is a fucking classic.

But I would recommend getting the self titled Mother Love Bone compilation which is both albums.

If you are feeling the Mother Love Bone albums pick up Green River's compilation Rehab Doll/Dry As a Bone. Green River is Stone Gossards first group. They have 3 albums out but it is nearly impossible to find the OG's of them.

If you like all that mid-late 1980's and early 1990's (grunge whatever you want to call it) Washington rock check out these groups as well.

The Melvins (One of my favorite groups)
Mudhoney
Screaming Trees
Tad
Love Battery
My Sister's Machine
Skin Yard
Gruntruck
The Monkeywrench

Good lookin on the info, Nuttkase. I'll probably pick up that Mother Love Bone first, then look at some of the other bands. I've been interested to hear some Screeming Trees. Their singer is the guy who sung on a couple of the Mad Season songs, right?

The Drummer of Screaming Trees Barrett Martin played drums in Mad Season. Mark Lanegan is the lead singer of Screaming Trees and I don't remember him singing on Above (been a minute since I listened to it though.)

Mark Lanegan. He sings with Layne on I'm Above and Long Gone Day (great song).

@Cranky, if you look on half.com or amazon.com, you can find it for pretty cheap. I only paid $6 for my copy, including shipping.

IMO Allmusic.com hits what I think about the album right on the head...so here is their review.

Boggy Depot finds Jerry Cantrell in an interesting position. Unlike most famous musicians launching a solo career, Cantrell is a reluctant solo artist. If he had a choice, it's clear he would have recorded most of the material on Boggy Depot with Alice in Chains and tour it with the band, but Layne Staley's inertia, poor health and personal problems meant that the band couldn't function as a normal working band. Instead of holing up, Cantrell made a solo album that's an Alice album by any other name. Everything that an Alice fan has loved, particularly the morose atmosphere and the dark, grinding guitars, is here in spades. There are certain individual touches to be sure — since Cantrell hasn't been a studio in a while, he feels compelled to drag all the songs out a little bit too long with guitar solos — but it's not far removed from what he's done in the past. Boggy Depot doesn't have the psychological weight of Dirt, Alice's best album, but it comes close to replicating the sound. And for some fans, that might be enough, especially since they'll actually get to see Cantrell in concert and get new records on a fairly regular basis.

They gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

It's a good album to have in the collection. I break it out every now and than.

Allmusic is a great site if you want to find out more about a band and they have like 20-30 second snippets of complete albums.

What Mudhoney would you recommend? I see they have quite a few albums.

@Nuttkase, thanks for the info. I just ordered that Mother Love Bone compilation from half.com. I'll probably get that Jerry Cantrell soon, too. I just got my job back a couple weeks ago, so I've kind of been on a CD buying binge lately:knockout:

Picking only one Mudhoney album is a hard choice lol.

I own just about everything they put out...singles, EP's, 7inches, 45's, etc.

Pick up Superfuzz Bigmuff Plus Early Singles. Which is there first EP Superfuzz Bigmuff plus songs from there first two 45's and two cover songs. It also has prob. my favorite Mudhoney song "Touch Me I'm Sick."

Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge is a must have. Let It Slide and Into the drink are fucking classic on the album.

They also have March to Fuzz which my be a good place to start. It's two discs with the first being their more popular songs from 1988-1998. The second has 30 rarities. It's a great album to have.

Their new album Under a Billions Suns is really good. It has a pretty political theme to alot of it. Great album regardless though.

Hope that helps some.
