how exactly does this happen?

i was thinking about this while listening to the song Freaky. now i understand this was supposed to be on Anghellic (sample couldn't get cleared right?). Was this the only song that was supposed to be on Anghellic that didn't make it? if so i would figure other songs would have gotten ripped too.

Also, how do these other songs get ripped to the net? is it someone in the recording studios or what?

Hellbound, Sometimes, The Virus, Celsius, Be Warned.....none of these were on any album per se (correct me where i'm wrong). of course the last two showed up on the Celsius CD but they were on the net before then.

where'd they come from?

You have to think though...

It's a possibility that it gets leaked by...

-Mastering companies...
-Printing companies...
-Magazines that do reviews...
-Studio operators...
-Friends of the artist...
..shit anyone...

Apparently back in the late 90's Tech had some non-trustworthy cats around him. Hellbound, Sometimes, The Virus, Celsius, Be Warned were on tapes the have been floating around KC for like 5 years...

As for Anghellic.....

Someone must have had a copy of all the tracks, UNMASTERED, and got it stolen or they started bootlegging it.

I had all the tracks from Anghellic (except sinister tech and the interludes), back in like April of 2001. My sister brought home this cd from school (Liberty High) and said "this is Tech N9ne's new cd". I said bullshit and put it in to listen.....i figured it was just It's Alive, Here I Come and PR2K1....the 3 tracks I had for about a month already. But sure enough it was the whole cd....with Freaky and My Own Hell included.

About a month later i see it out on the internet.....with Real Killer and My Own Hell labeled as one song.....because thats how it was originally burned to the cd. So I know the bootleg shit didnt come from me cause i seperated the 2 tracks when I ripped the cd for my own personal use.

As for Absoulte Power......someone ripped the promo release. The cd thats sent to all the magazines and radio stations and news media, etc.

Thats just a sample as to how the mp3 ripping world goes.

As for studio people ripping CD's, it doesn't make any sense....An album can be seriously jeapordized by it being leaked to the net first, at least in the eyes of the labels. It would only hurt the situation for the studio/engineer....Who wants to use a studio/engineer that they can't trust to keep the project under wraps?...

As for me...I take CD's with me all the time, but they are NEVER converted to MP3's, nor do I let any of them out of my possession. I actually destroy them after I'm done listening to what I need to listen to....

My guess is that it's "friends" of the artist or people in the promotional chain...They have nothing to lose personally by the album leaking, and someone always wants to be the "first" with a copy of the album...

As for Tech's stuff, we give copies to NOONE except Trav and several people at MSC... The promo CD's going out was beyond our (Chapman's) control...I probably wouldn't have sent out the whole album, but that's me...

^^^^^

Thats about it.....

I know alot of artists will leave the studio with a copy of their shit....and they might lose it or let a close friend borrow it. Then their friend or somebody gives a copy to their bro...and so on and so on. then a good group of people got it...the next thing ya know its leaked. I about killed Trajik once when he thought he had left a cd of shit in a hotel where he had a party...lol.

Uh, that may be true, but The Eminem Show was one of the most bootlegged albums ever, but it still sold and sold... The day I burned myself a copy is the day they would up releasing it (a few weeks early) and that very same day I went out and bought it. Bah.

I can agree with you on that one Zer0... My homeboy brought that to my house and I was going to burn it to my computer, and when I heard it, I was pissed...

The best thing for most artist to do is...

A "new" artist having his music printed up and ready to ship out first, and then a month later having the video premier... About two weeks later, the release of the album, and people wouldn't know what hit em' except to buy the album... Sort of buy's you time to lay low and faze out and not seem as likely to be bootlegged... When you come out, it's all at once...

Enhanced CD with about 15-20 mins. of interview and show's footage, and some studio shots, kicking it places and other stuff is the route that I would take in a poor mans position that is bringing out a CD locally... It sort of lets them know you on a personal level, who you really are and a face to put with the artist, and it's not that much either to do, and they dont all have to own DVD players... ::hint:: ::hint::

Yeah, that enhanced CD shit isn't too good, and especially for them not putting shit on it, but some stupid 3-D hallway's and rooms to go into, which I think is a waste of time, but adding important stuff, and shit that people would anticipate seeing is what makes that a lot better....
