Alaska is awesome, but I could never live there. Well, maybe in Anchorage, but not anywhere in the outskirts. I visited Homer, Alaska and never been so thankful to have running water and electricity back home in MN. Its crazy how some of them people live up there. They honestly live off the fat of the land. My cousins live up there and they live in a house with running water and electricity, but they brought me out and about and I swear, I've never seen so many run down shacks in my life. People were living in what looked to be run down ice fishing houses. They don't have building codes up there like we do here so they can pretty much build up four plywood walls and a flat roof and call it their house. They go to town and pump water outside the grocery store, boil that shit over a fire and wash up/cook/whatever. It was insane to see, I dunno how they get through the winters like that. And there is like five guys to every one girl up there so all the guys are horny disgusting bastards, lol, most of whom are on fishing boats most their lives. It was cool though, you can call a cab up there and they'll bring you pizza, cigs, liquor, whatever you want for a small fee. And pretty much everyone I met up there was a drunk, they drink a lot, can't say I wouldn't do the same though if I lived up there. Everyone knew everyone in Homer though, kinda like one big family. They got some bomb smoke up there too and my cousin grows mushrooms so I had a hell of a time.
It is def one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. I'd go there again, but like I said, it would be a different story to live there, at least in Homer anyway. Anchorage is more of a city... ya don't see the run down fish houses around there, lol, but Homer, wow, its crazy to see how some of them people live. I couldn't stand going a day without a shower, some of those people though, they probably go months without a shower.
