No... at least not to my understanding.. you have to make a minimum amount in order to claim the tax credits...

BUT.. you should work out somethin' to claim her babies and get broke off....

if you know she ain't filing all you need is their SS#'s for you to file and claim them as dependants. You will need to file a 1040, not a EZ, because there's an add'l child tax credit form (i think).

the only way you could possibly get in trouble is if you both claimed the kids as dependants during the same tax year.

just make sure no one else is filing her kids as their dependants. I mean she dont work, and has kids? she has to be gettin helped out somewher right? and whoever is helping her out might be listing them already

Hmmmm... I dont know that the gov't would connect it all.. As everyone else said... the main thing is that no one else is claiming those babies.

A lot of my folks "sell" their kids off at tax time... sounds harsh I know.. but *thinks about it* one of my homeboys doesnt make any money above board, has two kids.. he lets his sister claim one and the baby momma claim one.. my girl does hair out of her home, has 4 kids, gets Food Stamps but no actual cash and she lets her mom claim all her kids for half the bread every year..

I havent done my taxes yet this year.. but I'm filing for the past 3 years and I'm about to get CASHED OUT... lol.. :cheeky:

QUESTION: How many do you claim on your I-9 Musty?

I claim 5.. at tax time I claim myself (one), my boys (two, three), head of household (four) and my puppy (five)... I hardly have any taxes come out... at the end of year I claim 3 (my baby daddy claims my oldest, but this is the last year) me, my youngest and head of household.... bringing in anywhere from $3600-$6500.. depending on what I make that year..

HR Block don't know shit homie! These people aren't qualified. They take a crash course in taxes and let the software figure shit out for them. You're better off buying the software 'Tax Cut-Standard edition' and saving yourself some bread. If you know that no one is claiming the kids i would go ahead and claim head-of-household and the kids. The only thing that could bust you is if someone else happens to claim them. I posted the definition of head-of-household below. I would lie and say the kids lived with you half the year. The great thing is that the burden of proof lies with the IRS. They half to prove you didn't have the kids rather than you having to.

When Kalyn says she claims 5 (including dog), she does so on the I-9 filed with her work. You can claim whatever you want. You can even claim Exempt where they don't take any federal or state tax out of your paychecks. But they are required to deduct Soc Sec, State & Fed Unemployment, etc.

Head of Household-The filing status used by an unmarried taxpayer who pays over half the cost of maintaining his home that is the principal residence for over half the tax year of his unmarried child or other lineal descendent (this child does not have to be a dependent) or of his dependent married child or other qualified relative. A dependent parent who does not live with the taxpayer may also qualify the taxpayer for the head of household status if qualifications are met.

...lol... not "literally"...

What you claim on your I-9 all year long is what determines how much the gov't takes in taxes per paycheck, so thats how I "justify" it to myself... :)

I claim 5... keeps my checks fatter... and I still come up at tax time...
