I was just wondering how ya'll with ink take (or have taken care of) your tattoos after you got them. Basically I've heard 3 different methods from 3 artists.

1) Leave that shit alone. Let it heal naturally.

2) Thin layers of vaseline when it's dried out.

3) Cake it with A&D ointment and wrap it in plastic wrap overnight. Let it breathe during the day.

I was just curious as to which method all of ya'll prefer and if maybe someone can make a good enough argument that will get me to adhere to a specific method.

Good lookin out.

I USED A&D OINTMENT OR REGULAR TRIPLE ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT. I HEARD SOMETHING ABOUT THE NEOSPORIN BRAND MAKES THE INK NOT LOOK SO FRESH. I JUS USED THAT FOR LIKE 5-6 DAYS THEN SWITCHED TO REGULAR LOTION

yup. that's exactly what i did. first day, wash your tat with ANTIBACTERIAL HANDSOAP. and then wash it and let it AIR DRY for 10-15 mins. after use A&D ointment on it for 3-4 days. after those days, use lotion: KERI, CUREL.

I've tried a bunch of different methods and the one that seems to work best is using A & D for the first 3 days (using really thin coats) and starting on day 4 switch over to regular non scented lotion until healed. Make sure you wash it a few times each day just don't let the water hit it directly out of the shower head or sink. I've also tried Tattoo Goo and that shit worked pretty good too.

I use this method....Shea could probably co-sign on this one. This came highly recommended to me, and worked real good! 1st shower no bath's for the 2 weeks. Wash tattoo with Dr. Bronners Almond liquis soap (find @ longs, whole foods, etc..)

On the 1st night-3rd: Wash tattoo with Dr Bronners and let air dry, then apply some Aquaphor Healing Ointment (find @ any drug store) Wrap the tattoo and sleep with bandage on.

Day 1-3: Wash tatto in the morning and reapply ointment (small amount) Reapply ointment as needed throughout the day. (Do not wrap during the day)

Day 4-14: Continue to wash tattoo everymorning with Dr Bronners soap, and switch from the ointment to unscented (key word..Unscented) lotion and apply often throughout the day and b4 bed.

No need to wrap tattoo after 3rd night...

ohh yea the Neosporin issue...from what i heard suffocates the tattoo which is not good 4 ur tat.

I wash the tat a few times a day with antibacterial soap for the first few days and once it's dry keep a nice thin layer of A&D on it. Once it's healing well and starts peeling I switch to lotion.

I've got a grip of tattoo's and this is worked great for me. I've only had 1 infection and that was when I got a tat touched up the day before we had to leave for a short tour and we were just constantly moving and in and out of clubs and shit (so I was asking for it).
