Last week we reported that a fight between light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver and Bernard Hopkins was close. Now it's even closer. A verbal agreement has been reached with Tarver-Hopkins landing on HBOPPV June 10. Contracts are yet to be signed ....... i dont see hopkins being able to get close enough to cause any damage,so im picking tarver...who u guys picking?

I love Hopkins, I thought he won the first fight against Taylor and the rematch was close, he never got hurt.

This is an interesting matchup. When Tarver fought Jones Jr. he did not impress me. Neither fighter really did shit and Tarver did just enough to win on points.

I'll take Hopkins.

But I thought Hopkins was fighting Jones Jr. next?

I'm not trying to rain on any parades but this years match-ups are extermely boring (other than pac-morales).

Winky vs Taylor
Tarver vs Hopkins
Vargas vs Mosley

It seem's like they are just throwing big names in there, and expecting people to buy (which they probably will), but these fighters are picking up and dropping weight to make it happen and the styles don't even make for a good fight with eachother.

Tarver will KO Hopkins.

By KO I dont necessarily mean Knocked Out, I thik the ref will stop it in the semi late rounds (8 or 9).

Anaylist are predicting a UD for Tarver, due to Hopkins turning straight defensive mid way finding out that he can't win the fight.

I like Hopkins, but he should have retired after his first loss to Taylor.

i said it on another thread i believe tarver is a jinx. i got tarver buy decision. i would say knockout but b-head is too defensive. i don't see him making any noise in this fight if he wants to trade he'll get knocked out.

^I don't know, Hopkins has a lot more motivation for this fight because if he wins or loses he's most likely to retire. I'm quite sure that he'll do anything that he can to end his career with a W.. I think that if Hopkins doesn't bullshit and really tries hard, he can beat Tarver, especially in the later rounds. Tarver has a stamina problem, he was damn near about to pass out in the last round of the 3rd Roy Jones fight. Plus, Hopkins TKOed Glenn Johnson, and Tarver is scared to fight Glenn Johnson again coz he has trouble with him.

I think Hopkins will win because he's smarter. I don't think he lost any of those fights to Taylor. Just because Hopkins gave away the early rounds doesn't mean he lost the fight. He came on strong in the championship rounds and Taylor faded in both fights.

Hopkins by UD. Hopefully he doesn't start off too slow and let Tarver take them early rounds.

Hopkins gonna smash on tarver, Tarver is so overrated, beating up an old roy jones aint a great accomplishment.

I'll be rooting for B-Hop and I think he deserves a big time victory like this after he was robbed in both of his fights with Taylor.

But Tarver is not only physically stronger, he's also a very bad match up of styles for Hopkins.
I'm picking Tarver to take this one by UD.
I won't be shocked if Hopkins is KO'd though, Tarver is a very strong puncher and can easily land that over hand left on Hopkins.

I sort of feel bad for Hopkins, I think he had better chances against Calzaghe.
Tarver's simply way too much for him.
But who knows? Maybe Tarver gives him too much respect like he did Roy Jones in their first fight. More so, I saw a quick glimpse of Hopkins working out yesterday. He looks like he bulked up pretty well.
It might turn out in the end that Tarver's size advantage isn't really there.
Even so, B-Hop cannot win this fight at a slow pace.
It's just a bad styles match up for him, his counter punching style will not help him much against Tarver's boxer puncher style.

I won't be watching this one.
I just don't think it's going to be much of a good fight.
But I hope I'm wrong so that I can catch the replay on HBO next Saturday.

Man... I'd be shocked if Hopkins is KO'd.... I've never, ever seen Hopkins in trouble before (in danger of being knocked out). Nothing Tarver does impresses me. I think that one punch knockout of Roy Jones helped Tarver too much. Hopkins is like 10-0 versus southpaws. I am not sure if it would be an exciting fight because Hopkins can be too careful at time. It's better for his sake but not for the scoring sake. I'll still take Hopkins by UD. He just can't let Tarver outpunch him the whole fight or it will be Taylor vs. Hopkins all over again.
