From what I have read its almost the same software as LE, but instead of using a digidesign interface it uses ones from M-audio instead. You cant use any other interface it has to be an M-audio one. Digidesign ( the makers of pro tools ) bought M-Audio awhile ago.

^^^^ I've been thinking about going that route. Seriously I hardly use pro tools for myself and the only reason why I made the purchase was so I could get more clients (it worked).

But I have another dilema right now.

MPC 4000 or MV-8000

and

Kurzweil 2661 or alesis fusion (the 88 key) or roland fantom x (88 or 61)

My budget allows for 2 items and I can possibly squeeze 3 if I buy used. None of this stuff is required (I have a nice setup as it is) but I do an expansion on the lab every 3-6 months.

BTW FUCK DIGI DESIGN AND FUCK PRO TOOLS!!!!!!!!! THE VALUE OF THE DIGI 002R WILL DROP NOW SO YOU BETTER DUMP THAT SHIT ASAP!

:HGK:

PS moe you have a list for good summing boxes?????

And before you throw away your Digi 001 or 002 read below. Question is will they add this to the M-audio version or not?

In the Avid Developer Community pavilion, Digidesign will offer a sneak peak of an upcoming version of Pro Tools software for Windows XP systems that supports Multi-Core Hyper-Threading, offering increased performance for host computer operations such as RTAS® plug-in processing.

NAB is April 18 through 21, 2005, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, running from 9AM to 6PM through the 20th, and 9AM to 4PM on the 21st. For more information on NAB, visit www.nabshow.com.

i'm not too familiar with summing

i don't understand whether you need a 16 channel d/a or just need to go out of your 2 channel da from spdif/digital out of your DAW

as far as i've heard, there hasn't been enough summing boxxes that have a lot of character..
i'm not going the summing route yet myself

and as far as the mpc 4000, buy another computer and get yourslef the mpd-16 pad controller...in my opinoin much better deal

@ View 1 Thankyou!!!!! :classic:

@Moe If I were to make a track that uses every piece of hardware I have I'd need more than 16 inputs on whatever I'm going to. I can get around less inputs but id prefer to simply route all the audio to something else if I can benefit (which I can). I can use that Audient box and route pro tools/cubase sx stems to it. I've heard good things about summing boxes I just don't know which one would suit my needs.

About the mpc or computer with mpd-16 I don't want the mpc for pads. I want the mpc because I'm going to really open the doors to the public soon and the person who will be in charge of production wants one. I'm on some other shit right now so the only thing I'm gonna do is open shop, have 2 guys run it while I'm handling this other shit and mix when I have the time. The eye candy and wow factor will go a long way and I'll make my loot back in no time. Thats the only reason I copped the digi 002r in the first place but I've recouped that loot several times now.

@Heresy, no problem. Most people are useing summing to by by pass the digital bus on their daw, but if your going to use it to route signals in, it really depends if you want one with color or not. API also makes a summing unit, so if you wanted the punch of the API sound that would be another way to go too. Heres the link.

http://www.mercenary.com/api82limi.html

The Folcrom is one of the more interesting ones because it is a passive unit. It simpley takes up to 16 channels ( or 8 stereo ) and summ's them done to 2. The interesting part is you need a stereo pre amp to bring the singnal back to line level. So what ever pre amp you use, that is what color's the unit. Again see link below.

http://www.rollmusic.com/systems/folcrom.shtml

http://www.atlasproaudio.com/folcromlowdown.html

More INFO from Roll Music:
The Folcrom is a high quality passive mixer intended for multichannel analog summing of digital mixes. It uses no active circuitry and provides no gain or level controls. The idea is to control the level, panning, EQ, and effects sends of your mix from within the DAW, and send as many as 16 different tracks or submixes to a high quality multichannel outboard DAC which in turn feeds the Folcrom. You then perform only the summing in the analog domain. This enables you to maintain absolute repeatability from within your DAW.

Enjoy.
