SAN JOSE (KRON)--According to court records, the man suspected of ramming a stolen vehicle into several San Jose police patrol cars and injuring an officer on Tuesday never showed up for his jail sentence related to a petty theft conviction.
Police say 27-year-old Alejandro Gonzalez was arrested Tuesday after carjacking an SUV from an elderly man and leading officers on a police chase. According to police, Gonzalez reportedly rammed the stolen vehicle into the back of a San Jose patrol car trapping the officer inside. Police say the officer sustained serious injuries in the collision. Rescue crews were eventually able to remove the officer from the car and take him to the hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.
According to police, after ramming into the first patrol car, Gonzalez sped down capitol Expressway where he rammed into other patrol cars. He was stopped a short time later by a fourth police car and taken into custody.
Court records say Gonzalez was sentenced to 19 days on a petty theft conviction, but failed to show up for the sentence. Gonzalez also has two felony stolen property convictions
