It was finally released this year, it feels good to see my name in the credits of the finished job....
It was a helluva project and a real learning experience in many ways, met a lot of people through this and glad its finally finshed for everyone to see....

Filmmaker John Montoya's documentary examines the roots of gangsta rap. Artists Ice-T, Coolio, Ish Butler, Fatal, Sir Dyno and other hip-hop stars share their personal insight into the genre born in America's inner cities. The film also features interviews with a variety of people from fans to anthropologists who shed light on how a musical style that glorifies outlaw lifestyles, sex, violence and drugs became popular even in mainstream circles.

Finally I have produced a documentary "born 2b GANGSTA?" with Leila Steinberg which we will be releasing this summer and fall. Our goal is to do public exhibitions at high schools and universities to discuss the meaning of the music's messages.
