VANCOUVER, Wash. - A suspect made his getaway in a Clark County patrol car.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, a Clark County deputy pulled a man over on a traffic stop near Northeast 78th & I-5, in the Hazel Dell area. As the deputy approached the suspect, he ran away on foot.
The Clark County Sheriff's Office says the deputy gave chase. But during the chase, the suspect circled around, jumped into the deputy's own patrol car, then hit the gas and started driving right at the deputy.
That forced the law officer to fire a shot into his own car. He didn't get run over, but the suspect sped away with his car. Deputies and Vancouver Police officers found the stolen patrol car abandoned in a nearby neighborhood, but they didn't find the man who stole it. The case remained under investigation and the suspect was still being sought Sunday afternoon.
