I have to take a project to a studio for mixing, and the person left it up to me to pick the spot. I've worked out of the big spots here in the bay, but now I'm looking for something more intimate/smaller for this project. If the spot is running cubase, nuendo, pro tools or logic thats all good, but please don't tell me about your buddies spot with all the cracked programs and plugins.

I prefer a spot that has a good engineer that knows his shit, because I'll either direct the traffic or mix myself (and utilize him only for patching or fiddling with gear I'm not familiar with.) We will finish tracking as soon as I get out of school, and we already have a place for that. I just need a place to mix out of thats all.

I had a chance to work with Nick and spoke with him over the phone like a year or so ago. He had an intern spot open, so I was trying to get my brother in so he could intern. However, my brother wasn't trying to smash out to hayward like three times a week so we lost contact after that.

I'll hit him up tommorow and see what their schedule is looking like.

any more?
This is why somebody needs to build a REAL pro level studio in Northern Cali.
Don't get me wrong there's tons of people with great places, but none compare to the Sonys and Hit Factory's or Chung King's for that matter.
Gotta go to the city to find these places. We need one out in Sac!
Have you looked into StudioC out in Stockton?

SF Soundworks and 510 Studios are both dope spots. If u interested in High Quality they do some nice work. SF Soundworks is pretty expensive though. I would recommend 510 studios though not too too expensive and the engineer and owner aaron knows what he's doin.

if u wanna check out the website.

I've already worked out of soundworks before. I was paid $$$$$$$$ to sit on my ass (real chop.) I've also worked out of prarie sun http://www.prairiesun.com/index2.html , but I'm looking for a smaller spot. I've never worked out of 510, but if the rate is that much per hour the project might as well be mixed at one of the other spots or at Dentons. But good lookin out scandal, because thy do offer indie rates so I'll have to hit em up.

@vince good lookin out cuzzo, I'll look into it in the morning. I gotta smash out now.

^^^ That might work (even though I was lookin for a smaller spot.) On the site they said $325-350 depending on the room, but they don't say if an engineer is included. I don't like fuckin with peoples patchbays (they are all different), and since I don't know their routing configuration I would need someone there to at least show me how they they have everything routed.

Good lookin out.

An employee of one of the studios in this thread told me something sick. He said they don't allow people to mix their own music and said an engineer would be required to sit in on the session. Five minutes later he said ***I*** wouldn't even be allowed in the room when the songs where being mixed. :dead:

^^ I have no idea cuzzo. I don't know what the hell they thought, but the guy on the phone sounded timid and weak, and I was coming at him hard because I told him I didn't need an engineer unless they had a patch bay. If a person forces you out of the studio thats something you don't want. I'd never tell someone not to be here when I mix or to leave. Music is all about vibe, and I shouldn't be left to the choices and descisions they make when I know what needs to be done.

BTW cuzzo, I can't find the link to the website I was telling you about, so I'm looking around here for the booklet they sent me. This is a real high end shop and they don't sell anything under $5,000.
