im glad you think so
here s the secret
i use rode mics all solid state no tube
all tube pre amp compressor by hhb ( cuss the guy who developed them also designed the pres for neve )
i compress lightly on the front end to steady the vocal soften the dynamic usually i set the thres at zero i clamp down at a 7:1 ratio slow attack fast release once in i compress for me -6 db thresh 4:1 ill squeeze harder on a keek da sneek typa rapper i roll off everything under 100 hertz i cut mud out between 3 to 800 hundred hertz with a thin bandwidth till it sounds clear i make a small increase between 5000 to 7000 khz with a med to wide bandwith no more then 2 db and i make sure not to add silabince or the rappper will sound lispy like sylvestor the cat then it put a shelf filter and up everything past 8000 to add shimmer and float the vocals over the beat i keep my mouth a foot from the mic i use a popper stopper i pan my leads head up and mix them louder then my double track which i pan head up too i pan my adlibs to the side
and i usally triple the hooks and cut more bass ad more shimmer and reverb to the hook on reverbs i cut all diffusion and add more decay to the frequencies above 5 khz and cut then all to none below that

mo i tell you this cuss its love if you lived down here i would call what you do new bay so if you have ne other ?'s please reply and ask

that's a nice recipe, reminds me of mine in several places as far as the eq'ing is concerned... a great signal path as well... the compression you use is similar to dre's, atleast when he's working with 50 Cent. i prefer solid state microphones and tube pre-amps as well. i been looking at some new outboard gear and the solid state avalon 2022 preamp and avalon vt-747sp opto-compressor have really caught my attention... i like the fact that when recording I can go from the mic into the 2022 and track out my vocals and then from there send them out to the compressor and depending on the situation select either a tube or solid state signal path... however when it comes to tube pre-amps Neve is the choice of many and I probably need to do more research on the Neve subject but there seems to be an abundance of Neve designs and not enough knowledge floating around about which one is better sounding than another one... got any ideas?

@V-BOY: i feel you... as for knowing what dre uses it's no secret, that's what industry magazines are for cause dre gets interveiwed quite a lot and he spills his secrets all over the place cause he's cool like that... he knows it's not only the equipment but how you use it, but he still fucks with the best none-the-less... the signal path on "in da club" was from a sony c800 into a neve 1078 pre and then into an avalon design vt-737sp mono tube compressor (before this compressor he used the dbx 160 which produced many hits including all your favorite ones) then tracked out to pro tools... seems kinda weird to me, I would have tracked it before the compressor so I could make changes, but then again, dre has been doing this for 19 years so i'm sure he never misses and doesn't need to go back and make changes. but naw, i don't know him or anybody associated with him... i just read a lot and try and keep myself updated about what everbody else is doing and understand shit so I can formulate a plan for myself.

in da club: 7:1 ratio, fast attack, medium release, threshold just below -1 with an attenuation of 4-5db on a vt-737sp...

as for beats, I get them from everybody... anyone who has tight shit that i'm feeling at the time...

I started to check out your audios, but for some reason Soundclick is slow as fuck right now (or my Comcast is hella slow). From what I got to listen to before it went into eternal buffer mode, it sounded tight as fuck V-Boy. I had never heard your shit. Do ya thang V.......I'm gonna try to listen to the audios again.......
