As part of of the national "Books not Bombs" (as if that isn't a pipe dream) campaign there was a student strike yesterday. Most of the universities in the state pulled modest numbers in the hundreds. But the rally at the University of Wisconsin, which was mostly UW students, but included some high school, middle school, and technical school students, ended up with about 3,000 people. (probably would have pulled more had it not snowed a good 3-4 inches the night before)
The main part of the rally had a DJ spinnin the likes of Ice Cube and Gang Starr and a number of speeches from students and local activists (the one given by the chair of my organization was the best though, my bias is duly noted, but i'd say the majority of people on here would agree with me it was most relevant)
I'm not too big on the whole rally and marching thing, but this wasn't too bad.
Anyone else's school have one of these? Anyone else participate?
I found some pictures so you can see what it looked like:

But the question remains where will these people be when the repression begins? Still in the streets or back in class or in their warm homes? I've got my guess.
