With all the new expansion overseas within Australia/Kiwi land would it be a great move for Strange Music to start looking into signing a International artist from Australia/New Zealand ?

I think if promotion was done good and it was done right after a deal was made for Australian/Kiwi land distribution it would greatly improve sales overseas in those 2 countries and in the UK. It would throw up the name of these underground American artists right in the faces of the youth who mainly focus on Australian rappers/musicians..

And as of the last few years ive noticed the large increase of "Australian" talent selling there cds when around 10 years ago the market was tiny..Could strange improve there sales by taking the chance with a talented musician from Australia ? It wouldn't be hard to find the artists specially if they used there "fans" to recommend names to them..

What do you guys think ? Id love to see strange music bigger in this country and if this happened there would be more local shows and the cd stores would be running more promotion for the label.

Opinions ?

* Id throw Figg Kidd's name in it as my number #1 choice. He sounds like a universal artists and isnt corrupted by that weak aussie mc sound i hear everywhere. And Figg kidd has already got an american audience aswell and i dont think Figg has any awesome contract with any labels at the moment.. He still paying of sony last time i heard lol

(Why also UK ? because Australian media has always been big in the UK and vice versa because these 2 countries have always shared alot. And the 2 countries relate to each other alot more than United States Of America.)

I thought Figgkidd was through with rap and focused on his family which is why he parted mutually with his former label Undak9 records..

As for signing international arists I would have to say no aswell.. I don't think it would be a financially good move.. especially if they were put onto the main roster.. there is enough American rappers Strange Music associates itself with that have much larger appeal and frankly are from what I hear far more gifted (just my personal opinion).. I don't think Australian hip-hop would have the niche in America as it does here.. though there are a lot of fans of Australian hip hop here.. thats only a small market and I just can't see it being as successful globally.. they need to focus their efforts on the roster they have.. the Kutt Calhoun's, the Big Scoob's, the Prozak's etc.. hell I would want Skatterman and Snug Brim back on the label before I would suggest anyone from here but thats just because I think it made the roster quite well rounded.. and I am not even the biggest fan of them..

If any talent was signed overseas I would hope at the most it would be some sort of distribution deal in there own particular market but that would be as far as the ties to Strange would be.. anything else and I would cringe..

so your saying there is no possibility that doing this could improve sales for strange music as a whole ?...

there must be a market for strange in AUS/Kiwi because strange has started doing more shows, promotions and even deals with store chains..why would they bother if there was no market ?

I think Australian artists would benefit more from having Strange Music's assistance then the other way around.. Australian hip-hop doesnt even remotely sound like the sound Tech N9ne or the rest of Strange Music has, it seems an odd fit and the Strange Music roster should have enough ability to get to other markets without bringing in other rappers onto the label.... spreading Tech N9ne and the rest of Strange Music internationally should be there primary focus which is why street-teaming is so essential in spreading there music out here and getting it onto our shelves.. it is to early to even debate about signing international artists on the roster but I for one would not be for it..

i thin strange really isnt promoting outside of US where aus and Nz and uk and others would create a huge market, i no Nz loves there Hiphop most proberly our top market in terms of music, best thing in the mean time is us "fans" in the mean time is to download samplers give them to mates or even go to hip hop clubs in our towns and hand them out to all weather their keen or not, you could say its stranges job to do all the work but in the end its word of mouth that works best

when kutts first cd came out people didnt think he fittd in with strange..but now everyones loves his shyt.. i think artists on figg kidds level could be the same way and make sales.. and for those who dont know figg and tech have already has a tiny bit of past and that track turned out decent..

i think its not something that needs to be done..i just thought maybe it would improve overseas sales because the home country would be behind the international artists.. look at the bullshit aussie rap on the radio atm.. if a artists like figg kidd was on strange and released a great track with a collab with a strange artists and did a good video clip i think it would blow up.. the competition isnt that hard in the AUS rap scene..

The only things good to ever come out of Australia is Steve Irwin and Rocko's Modern Life. With the show canceled and with Steve Irwins untimely demise, there is no talent left.

maybe your just narrow minded ? or an idiot ? u should try looking outside the box you live in...

**

did you know that australians created some of the first samplers that helped shape and form HipHop we see to day ? and in original old school tracks like

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Rock_(song)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairlight_CMI

Australians have talent and have always been deep into the music scene in every sense..how can u say there IS no talent ?

Rocko's Modern Life is an American TV animated series.. Steve Irwin pretty much played a stereotype.. your opinion is redundant..

What basis do you have to make this statement? Because I remember people arguing with me when I didn't like Kutt's first album. You signed up in 2008. WTF are you talking about?

You know what man.. you're one of those guys, that talks a bunch of shit when he doesn't konw a fuckin' thing. I remember when you first came around you pretended like you were going to set up an "invite only" website so you could get everyone's mp3's. Then I'm pretty sure you set something small up, invited 2-3 people who had given you their files and never did shit afterward.

I remember you talking to me on AIM trying to get me to send you files. You were probably trying to get everyone's personal info too, I bet. And you know what? You're not even an OG fan IN AUSTRALIA. Tech was touring Aus when you were probably just finding out who 50 Cent was, and bobbin' you head to In The Club while driving down a desolate highway with another Australian wannabe gangsta to go grab a pint of Fosters.

You're a fuckin' fake ass motherfucker talkin' out of his ass, makin' dumb fuckin' suggestions.

Typing in "australian hip-hop" or whatever the fuck you put in there, into wiki doesn't mean shit. You're going to tell a guy in NY that Australia has "roots" in hip-hop because somewhere in wikipedia there's a sentence about it? Can you even tell me where in the Planet Rock link you posted it talks about Australia having anything to do with it? I hope you're not trying to act like Kraftwerk was an Australian sensation.

Maybe I missed something but "Australia" doesn't even come up in a search of that page.

Either way man, that would be like saying the Doors were hip-hop because Tech referenced them on Playa. It's stupid. Falco wasn't hip-hop just because Tech used their beats. Iron Butterfly, isn't fucking hip-hop just because Cham used a beat of theirs.Sting isn't hip-hop because Puff used a song of his.

Why don't you just go the fuck away? You got your mp3 collection, what more do you need? You think you're going to talk about Australian hip hop, and Tech is going to move there so you can suck him off on the daily? Go to the office they're setting up, and suck the janitors dick... Maybe you can move up the ladder.

I love the idea but I think maybe strange should spend the next couple really elevating kutty and krizz..A tour that has Kutt Krizz headlining with Tech as a smaller guest appearance role but still there to get the tickets sold..
No.

If I were Krizz or Kutt I'd be insulted to even read that suggestion.

The only shit I read in this thread was from Zero, and I have to say it was mighty pertinent and fit in generally with the assumption I already had about the og wonder from down under.
