Can someone explain when the clock stops when running out of bounds? The last couple years I noticed that on certain occasions when a player runs out of bounds the clock doesn’t stop, as it had in previous years. This is also the way Madden ’05 works. It seems to me, that fewer than 2 mins, the clock will stop for sure, however, anything above 2 mins, the clock only sometimes stops. Why is that?

it will only stop if you have forward progress goin outta bounds...if youre goin backwards or forward progress has stopped..the clock will not stop...stupid isnt it...

^actually you're wrong

it only stops for the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half when a player goes out of bounds...it makes the speed of the game faster

Absolutely correct. I know for a fact. If you don't think so, I'm sure you could find the rule book somewhere on the net.

^college football and nfl football is a completly different game...the rules are not the exact same...and if that rule you speak of is really a rule, then it should be in the rulebook under timing, but i dont see it in that link pocat just posted...

Jae Reekay is right, if your forward progress is stopped before you go out of bounds the clock keeps going, I believe this is the case no matter how much time is remaining.

The shit RevoL is posting is news to me - I'll have to watch that this Sunday. It's possible that we never noticed because no one is concerned with time until the halves wind down.

Well after watching the 49ers-Redskins game I think RevoL is right. I watched Portis run out of bounds with 11:25 left in the second quater; the clock stopped until the ref set the ball at the line of scrimage, then it started going again. So it does stop, only momentarily.
