"The Athletics and Cardinals have completed a trade that sends outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
In addition, sources said the Athletics will throw in $1.5 million to the Cardinals."

now that i further analized this.. the A's won in this trade, the cards are basically over 10M for a rent a player..
we win and the key here is "short term". we will develop one of these guys into a quality major leaguer and trade him when his value is peaking for some quality minor league prospects, or beane ball. if only we had real revenue.

when you are missing a piece or two from really making a run, management needs to step up and make that happen. the cardinals want to win now. holiday was 4-5 behind pujols his first night. it is really a win-win for both.
