i need one of two things.

blueprints to custom build a soundproof booth in my apartment (keyword:apartment) so portability is a must. i need this to be cheap.

or a way to soundproof my oddly shaped closet. i already hung up blankets but i still get a strange echo plus noise from outside the closet. (the echo is almost metallic in nature?!?!?!)

Get some of that Acoustical Treatment foam(looks like Egg carton Foam) I put some of that up in my Room and it greatly reduced the echo. That shit's really Expensive though

You wanna know how my boy had his sound booth set up. He had mics in his bathroom, and Auralex Studiofoams all on the walls. He had the 2'x4' Pyramids, good ass quality with no echos.

Them shits aint cheap tho. He got his from Sam Ash, I think it was 12 2'x4' foam pieces, for I think 300. I'm pretty sure they run for cheaper now.

So thats what, 96 feet of foam???
Thats all you really need if you plan on doin that shit in the bathroom or a walk-in-closet or some shit like that, it'll cover every fuckin inch

Just look around at www.musiciansfriend.com or www.marsmusic.com Im pretty sure they'll have em

peace

sound proofing

If you are on a budget you can go to any department store and go to the section that sells blankets and bed sheets. You should see a mattress cushion that covers the whole bed. It will also look like eag crates. This is much cheaper than studio panels and works fine. Make sure that you cover your hole closet including the celling. You will see a big defference. If you are getting bleed through from you monitors when you record, just turn them down or use headphones when you are recording vocals. Good luck.

I custom built my recording booth.......it's 4'x4'x8'.......basically it's 4 sheets of high density 1" particle board. It's all framed out like a house......with an air vent and light in the ceiling. I have the whole inside treated with the 2-3" thick charcoal egg crate foam.....the real dense shit. Then I put a floor in it with carpet and padding......it's pretty nice and I've gotten alot of compliments on it. I keep it in my garage by the way......and my control room/studio is about 50 feet away on the other side of my house.

It ended up costing me about $400 to build......and I had to make it hella tall because one of my artists at the time was about 7 feet tall.

To anybody in the Seattle area......there's a place called Joe & Ali's Foam Shop in the U-District on about 55th & Roosevelt......they have the bombest fuckin' deals on foam anywhere. I'm gettin' 7'x4' sheets for like $34 (this was a couple years ago)........you can't beat that! They'll even hook up a better price if you buy bulk. All you need to do is buy an electric turkey cutter knife and cut the foam to the size you need.......it cuts it like a hot knife through butter.
