I doubt the cop is going to need a lawyer as it most likely will not go to court. I'm assuming the police officer will be investigated by an inside committee who will either see he gets suspended with pay, or he'll be let off and continue life as usual.

He will have an attorney before he gives a statement to the police, even if he is one. He will be investigated by the poilce and the DA. The DA will determine whether the information warrants charges. My point is determining what the cop will say. You can look at the facts and come to that conclusion pretty easily. I am just curious to see why people think or not think this is a racially motivated incident.

Do we even know who the officer is?

I mean, I watched that whole video and until about the 75% mark, I was like "yeah, this cop is fucked. Off-duty, getting into a squabble that isn't his, and he put SIX into some kids chest? AND THEN they were like "oh, well his gun was in his pocket". Well, you just sort of fucked yourself. You gave them the one piece of evidence they needed to not convict this guy. All the cop has to say "I saw what appeared to be a pistol in his pocket and I felt threatened".

Now that being said, from the kids reactions... I feel like it was unnecessary. It shouldn't have happened.

We'll it is Texas. Legally if you feel you or your property (being his car) are threatened by someone you are allowed to start firing on that person.
