I would say it probably was a diss to Ice Cube. I recently found out that he dissed Cube on "Dre Day" so it probably wasn't a coincidence.

"Then we gon creep to South Central
On a Street Knowledge mission, as I steps in the temple
Spot him, got him, as I pulls out my strap
Got my chrome to the side of his White Sox hat"

Street Knowledge was Cube's label back then. I always thought the White Sox hat thing was directed at Eazy but Cube actually wore it a lot back then too. They obviously made up right after The Chronic was released.

Ummm. So is the original poster then too. I didn't say I was a genius for figuring this out, I just never noticed it until somebody else pointed it out to me recently. I was just trying to help Big Chill figure out the answer to his question.

It's not all that obvious of a diss to Cube unless you knew about his label Street Knowledge, which I did, but not until some years after hearing Dre Day. I was 8 when Dre Day came out and it's actually the song that turned me on to rap, but I had no clue that Street Knowledge was Cube's label at the time.

It's especially not obvious when you consider that the song is mainly going at Eazy, and he was much more well known for wearing White Sox hats than Cube was so that's pretty easy to overlook. They don't have a Cube look-a-like in the video either yet they have Eazy, Jerry Heller, and Luke look-a-likes so once again I was only led to believe that those lines were dissing Eazy, and I bet a lot of people on this board made the same assumption I did.

"on a street knowledge mission as i steps in the temple"
eazy wasnt muslim or jewish
why would he be in a temple?

Lol I didn't know wtf a temple was at 8 years old either. It was one of those things that all makes sense now, but I came to a conclusion way back then when I didn't know better and never thought that hard about it when I got older. Not that wiki is a reliable source, but they don't mention the Cube diss and I don't remember ever reading it was directed at Cube. Sorry for missing something when I was 8 years old that was apparently blatantly obvious to you.

It was HELLA obvious!!! He said "...creep to South Central". Cube is from South Central... Easy was from Compton. Everybody I know definitely knew that he was talking bout Cube.
