HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) ― A Hollywood woman was taken into custody in Hallandale Beach after she reportedly drove her car into the path of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade, nearly hitting several police officers and babies in strollers.
Around 11 a.m. Monday a police officer reportedly told Latricia Samuel, 37, she couldn't park near the parade's main route. Samuel allegedly became angry, ignored the officer and drove south on NW 8th Avenue as the parade made its way north in her direction. Several police officers lining the parade had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. The police report also says three children, including two babies in strollers, were almost struck. At least one person was injured and taken to the hospital.
When Samuel reached Hallandale Beach Boulevard, she turned west and headed toward I-95 with several police cruisers in pursuit. At the northbound ramp to I-95, Samuel collided with another vehicle.
Samuel has been charged with seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, an additional six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing law enforcement and resisting arrest.
Bail has been set at more than $65 thousand.
