i have an akai mpd24.. and i been fuckin with native instruments (battery 2) for a couple months now. I've looked on there and you cant record the beats.. so im wondering is there an easy program i can use to learn how to make beats? i got some nice ass ideas for beats but i dont know how or what to use to record each sequence i do. So like drums, bass line, hit hats, snares.. etc. Then the sample.

You need a DAW with solid MIDI & Plugin support.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Audio_Workstation

There is a list of commercial DAW's and Free/Open Source DAW's on that page. I'm not sure if there is a midi sequencer that is free/open source but you can look and research the ones listed.

I personally recommend Cubase SX 3. However it will take some time before you are comfortable with the program, but that's what it's all about.

You should also look into a solid audio interface for your PC/MAC if you don't already have one, and a controller, as most DAW's require hardware to get the most out of them, a controller/keyboard. If you can't afford the hardware, look into something like FL Studio.

What do you mean by "sync" ? Is the midi input delayed or something? Or do you mean, you just don't know how to get it to work?

If you don't know how to get it to work at all. First make sure you installed all the necessary drivers for it (your MPD probably comes with a CD which contains the drivers), then make sure your controller is ON, open up FL Studio, go to the Options menu, MIDI Settings, then look down to the Input section (your controller should come up in that box, then select it so it's highlighted), then click the Enable button which should turn orange. It should then work. BTW, I don't have a MPD, I got an Axiom49, so I can't tell you how to exactly use that thing. I'll assume you'll use it with something like FL Studio's "FPC" device or a VST plugin like Guru.

FL has vst support dont it? i dont see what the problem is, check your routing settings in fl it shouldnt be that much of a chore to get that MPD working in there

On a side note i wish to hell i waited 3 months before i got my korg pad kontrol i really think this thing sucks compared to every other pad controller on the market

You just have to learn how to use it to the best of it's abilities. Check out this cat, he really makes that joint WORK.

There are many things you can do with that joint, so don't let it collect dust.

^thanks that was actually a big help since the instructions that came with it wernt very infiormative to me. i just set it to scene 11 and only use it for drums really cuz scene 11 is the only one that is actually to scale. Common sense would set the scenes in 0-127 order but they arent, its really dumb IMO that you have to set them yourself. I'm gonna peep the rest of those vid tomorrow though thanks
