you know, dead prez, immortal technique, etc. Post or recommend in this thread por favor...

I'll start and rep 206:
Blue Scholars

"Bayani" was one of my favorite albums of the last couple years. Often they use words like proletariat, petty-bourgie, comrades, revolution.

The name "Blue Scholars" is a play on the term "blue collar," which is an idiom for workers who often earn meager hourly wages for manual labor. Their music and lyrics often focus on struggles between socioeconomic classes, challenging authority and youth empowerment, as evidenced in the songs "Blink" and "Commencement Day." These themes are often specifically addressed in relation to the Seattle region, as in "Southside Revival", "North by Northwest", and "The Ave."

Good thread, I've been listening to blue scholars for about a year now found them while looking up the coup.

Another artist I'd like to share is Joe Driscoll, he's a one man band from NY living in London. He uses some kind of loop petal to make his beats live it works pretty good for him. Here's a sample video:

He's got other songs on his myspace too... www.myspace.com/joedriscoll

I think there should be a socially conscious rap group of college hippie white bitches fronted by rekomstop. They all wear their hair tied up in bandanas, have a protest of something at every show, smoke alot of pot, wear woolen backpacks and have religions that are a cross between Wicca, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Lifetime Channel Feminism, Taoism, and whatever the fuck else religion class they took that semester. Songs like

"I dont have to eat out of a dumpster but I do anyway"
"Im dating a colored vegan"
"Gay Muslim eating Pork while smoking a bowl, Imagine what a wonderful world it would be"
"Legalize"
"Fuck White American Patriarchy; it's paying for my college"
etc

After every show there would be a consciousness-building workshop where they open up a dialogue and raise awareness about the plight of Mexican gnats

Planet Asia comes tight. For some old joints, MacMall's Untouchable comes nice.

The guys in IT's crew, Akir and Poison Pen but that's real brooklyn style if it's your taste.

Nas has few.

Coolbone out of N.O. it's 'brass hop' but comes correct.

I think most artists donate a track or two to social concepts, but not too many that dedicate their entire 'mantra' to change and awareness. Sadly, it doesn't sell.
