MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (AP) ―
A 19-year-old Manhattan Beach man has been charged with trying to kill his parents by stabbing them with a butcher knife as they lay in bed.
Robert F. MacDonald pleaded not guilty in Superior Court on Monday to two counts of attempted murder.
Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jodi Link says MacDonald is also charged with two special allegations of using a knife and causing great bodily injury.
Authorities say MacDonald stabbed his 52-year-old father and 51-year-old mother multiple times Thursday before his father was able to fight him off.
Both parents were hospitalized. The father has since been released. The mother remains hospitalized but is expected to recover.
