maybe my take on this is totally wrong...i dont know.

its like this. we all say FTI. why? cuz they dont play artists like tech..artists we feel like deserve the respect of becoming -someone- right? theres more to it..but thats the basic point.

as for my take on this is accordance to what heat myser has said.

when you were little or even now..when somethings fucked up..not going right..where do you go? what do you do? you go to something you know..something that is secure. now you ask..how does this relate? well it all goes back to the economy..people want something that is stable..something they know will be there.. i.e. artists that get airplay..whether it be talent or not. they are on the radio...people are secure in the fact that they are on the radio because they are "good" in turn..they buy albums..their friends buy the albums because so and so did, and they dont wanna feel nor do they want to left out...and so on.

no in a time where such security isnt needed it is VERY possible for smaller and underground names to burst out onto the scene because the need for security in what consumers listen to or how they are affected by radio isnt needed? is this possible i think so.

Didn't Marilyn Manson break out just about the same time as the whole boy band bullshit? If you're correct Heat, what does that say about the state of the world at that time? Eek.

..::Zer0 would like to see Manson and T.Nizzle bust it down::..

Umm... I don't know anyone over 12 who listens to the radio, other than people who listen to oldies or classic rock. I also know that those 12 year olds aren't really concerned about the economy. I hate radio personally, not because I want to fuck the industry, or because I can't hear Tech Nizzle there (which might help), but because I haven't heard anything I liked on the radio for years... I think once you hit 15 or so and figure out what you really like, you tend not to listen to the radio at all, really. If I listen to the radio, it's to listen to talk like Opie and Anthony (RIP), Don and Mike, or Ron and Fez. The first song I've heard on the radio that I thought was decent in just about 5 years was the new Missy Elliott ish.

I'm only 19 and already I'm yellin' at little kids goin' "This shit sucks. Back in my day, music was good! They played real instruments and didn't sound like a bunch of pussies like that "Creed" bullshit you listen to! Put on some Guns N Roses you little punk! Put on some Metallica! Turn that Ja Rule shit off and put on his FIRST album!"

It's sad really... I remember when my brother went through the same thing.

Anyhow, I don't think "underground" artists just emerge out of nowhere, I think they just sell out. Limp Bizkit had something new and "underground" goin, and then they punked out and put out that "Signifigant other" album which sounded like a Lance Bass song sped up a little with crunchy guitars. Same goes for Korn.

(What the fuck was my point?)

As a matter of fact, I would bet that in a slowing economy, when people are forced to listen to radio for long periods of time, that's when they go to the internet and other random places to look for something new and refreshing.

Ya know, I really don't buy shit from stores that I can hear on the radio. Usually if something's on the radio, I definitely don't want it. I'd rather take a achance on something that I haven't heard.

That's how I found Mushroomhead, Jedi Mind Tricks, Blaze ya dead Homie, and most importantly... Tech Niz.

Manson broke out in mid to late 90's didn't he (I'm ot sure on this one).....but he broke out right before shit started to slip in the world. I remember as shit got worse in the late 90's he died out. Remember my statement is a broad statement and not specific to every artist.

And as far as boy bands....they or some form of extreme pop will always be around whether we like it or not.

Don't forget...you keep brinign personal taste in music into the picture...saying whats on the radio is bad. I have to remind you, if it was so bad, people would not listen to the radio and they would be out of business. Leave personal taste out and actually analyze what is going on.

Record companies don't intentionally target underground music and say we aren't going to put this out. They simple put their money in the best place. When you bring in personal taste in jusic you miss the business of it all. Unfortunately for people like us, we are the minority, and the record labels aren't going to cater to the smaller market. If the music we love was as popular as we build it up in our heads to be, it would be out there, everywhere - but not enough people feel the same way as we do.

If I had the money to make and market a true pop group I sure as hell would. Lou Pearlman did and he made a fortune. Don't hate the record industry hate all the people that buy Ja Rule, Nelly, N Sync, and Britney cd's....if the didn't buy em, the record labels wouldn't make em.

What I'm getting at, is that the only people who buy those things are mommys and daddys as birthday gifts for their 12 year old daughters. Parents know most of it is "safe" for children and they can depend on that same boy band or pop chica every year as a sure fire gift.

Yeah, it might be my personal taste that's saying the shit sucks, but when I put on a rock station, I know they're aiming at me. I'm prime demo, so where's the shit I like?

Zer0's personal opinion of the day:
Audioslave sounds like Rage against the Machine playing music, and Chris Cornell singing over it.... As we all assumed, that's an awful sound.

lol...at the audioslave shit. I always said that was going to happen. The lead singer is the only one that can pull it off without the other.

The band (Tom Morello specifically), can make it, but only if they stop playing regurgitated RATM. Chris Cornell sucks anytime he sings, so I don't know much about him.

When Zach de LaRocha (sp) did that ish with KRS-One, I was pretty impressed, so I can't wait for him to do something.

audioslave... fuck that.
man, morello's got so much talent ... i've heard him play some jazzfusion type shit sometime and he can do more than just one style... i dont understand why they gotta make audioslave sound like rage with soundgarden vocals. they shoulda done something differnt for god';s sake
