Rapper Snoop Dogg has pleaded guilty in an Orange County Courtroom on Thursday to one felony count of possession of a deadly weapon. However, the guilty plea entered by Snoop Dogg has ensured that the famed musician will not be spending any time in jail for his offense.
TMZ is reporting that Snoop Dogg pleaded guilty to the felony charge as part of a plea bargain between himself and the State. Snoop Dogg, known as The Doggfather and Snoop Doggy Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, accepted a plea deal that saw him handed 160 hours of community service for the charge, in a location which does not involve children, games or football.
The plea bargain also includes a reprieve from jail time should Snoop Dogg comply with the terms of the agreement. Snoop Dogg was given 3 years of informal probation according to TMZ, as well as a clause which says the rapper must donate $10,000 to a charity called "Right Track". One year from now, Snoop Dogg will be eligible to reduce his felony conviction to a misdemeanor, pending successful completion of his duties.
The charges against Snoop Dogg stem from an incident last September, when Snoop Dogg was accused of carrying an illegal weapon into John Wayne Airport. At the time, Orange County Sheriff's deputies arrested Snoop after airport security officials found the collapsible baton in a laptop carrying case. Snoop Dogg's lawyers have claimed that the baton was only a prop that was used in the filming of a music video in New York, though prosecutors deemed the 20-inch baton to be an illegal weapon.
